Finally, we reached the paint booth. The car was once again washed and cleaned here before entering the booth. It was cleaned for the last time when the doors of the booth were locked.

I was not allowed to enter the booth till the time it was opened for car. I didn't have much time to wait as I had to drop Lancer back to the mechanic. Therefore, I tool the pictures through the windows for you guys.

Now the final masking...

A bird was also there perhaps to do "something" on the newly painted car. Fortunately, he was not allowed to enter the booth either.

I left when the masking was being done.

I know many people here would be waiting to see the car after paint job. So the bad news is, I haven't seen it either. I was totally handicapped as I didn't have a free car to move. Went to have some food and returned late. The painter left the car in booth for whole night so that it may not face any moisture/rain etc. and could be baked properly with the help of the heaters installed in the booth.

According to an eye witness, the paint work had been awesome and he claims that I would love it. Now, "sabar ka phal meetha hota hai", so I am expecting it to be really sweet. InshAllah will upload just a few teaser pictures of the paint job tomorrow and would then upload the final pictures of the car once it is in its shape 100%.

wt will u do with it, whn it is ready, i mean sell. Wts the eng. condt.
and some statistic, for how much u bought, how much spent etc.

I would most probably keep it. I would only sale it if I get a very good profit out of it. The engine is fine so far and I would update the expenditure at the end of this project. Right now, I just have estimated costs and not final costs. Plus the mechanic have prepared bills for three of the cars, so I am expecting a heart attack in near future. Plus I am also makrooz of someone here which would be my first priority once I get cash.

by using matt black paint you have just wasted a set of nice headlamps - correct tinted headlamps have a shiny gray tint on the chrome of the cosmetic reflector not matt black.

You could have used a toner on them.

When I saw them for the first time, I also thought the same. But again, the lights were of third class quality and were not even original. The chrome would have died again in a couple of months or so. Now if they didn't look good after being installed on the car, I would most probably get a new pair. When you do some experiment, there is a pretty good chance that the result might not be according to the expectations. The overall look of these lights have not been finished so lets see when they'll go on the vehicle. Allah khair karay.

I am a bit confused regarding the headlights.
Shouldnt this indicator projector should have been left as it is?
I mean this highlighted portion shouldnt have been painted.

You got the quote from the Atla$ dealer? What was the difference? I got my City dented/painted etc from them and they charged nominal. Bit higher from open market...I got impressed with the quality of their work and referred my friend to them...When I sold my City to car dealer; no one could recognized the "fixed panel" (they didnt asked; and I never told ) Just curious why you didnt opted for the "official workshop" ?

I was noticing one thing,
Why is it that the pillars of the car are always left as it is?
I have seen many restoration projects and the denters always say "Na gee naa! pillar pe kabhi bhi steel putty nahi lagate, us pe sirf touching karte hain"
Can any one please explain me the reason behind this?
Has it something to do with the integrity of the pillars?

did your paint guy have the 2000 or 2500 grit paper and static degreaser mitt? That is the final wipe down.

and before even thinking of pulling the gun trigger make double sure that the compressor being used is HUGE and has very good and new water and oil separators and that is has shut off. Dry and filtered air with constant pressure makes the biggest difference in finish.

They could have left untouched, but... Lets see... I'll check a few other modification. They might suit.

I didn't get any quote from Atlas. Looking at the amount of work, I am sure they would have asked above 100K for denting and painting; pus the number of days they would have spent on this car. Now, spending that much on this car wouldn't have been wise as the cost would have reached the market price of a clean 2004 City. Therefore, I went for my team of mechanics. The painter is an experienced one and had worked at Vebra and Mak Motors in Islamabad. He was in working in Dubai before coming here. In this workshop, he is just doing my car.

The rear pillars have been treated just like any other part. The front ones are left as they didn't have any dent or scratches on them. However, they have been treated for the new paint.

I did ask him about the sand paper. 2000 grit paper is what he mentioned is used by him mostly. Plus he was explaining some other details which I couldn't get completely.

Ive rented a massive compressor once - when refinishing a mark 2. The amount of work I put into it for aiming for a glass finish required that I rent the enormous unit.
