The main problem with comparisions is that people by default assume that Japanese/ American/ European . cars are superior to any other cars made on the planet. This assumption comes to naught when you compare the Japanese cars being produced in Pakistan.
The reason I myself am looking at Proton is of my experience with Daihatsu Cuore. I simply don't understand why I should pay so much for a 20yr old car, same with Cultus. And if you are willing to pay so much for these cars then what is the problem with paying for Proton? Well actually Proton Saga costs less then the Cultus.
No other Pakistani car is providing so much for this price. The God Damned Cuore comes without a steering lock!!! and still you would see people asking for more safety/ security features from a Saga and yet not mind paying so much for a Cuore. Their problem is that they have decided that Proton (or Cherry for that matter) are defective because they are not from a company in Japan or Korea or America and no matter what Adam, Proton, Cherry produces they prefer to keep their heads in their asses.
Don't even get me started on the 'service' from dealerships. Everything sucks in the automotive sector in Pakistan, we as a nation are being conned into paying exorbitant prices for shoddily built cars which would be illegal to sell in many countries.
So with the price tag of 7.2something (without CNG) I am going to give it a try, hope my bank is willing to finance it though.
