After long thinking between Saga, Alsvin, Yaris, and City, i finally booked Saga.

Production will start in Oct and deliveries will start in Nov. This is confirm news now.

Yes probably your are right, but as per older news Proton got greenfield status as per last auto policy 2016-21, that means they have got concession on import of CKD parts, now I am not sure what are details of that policy when it will end either in 2021 or 2026, but govt is concerned due to increase imports due to expensive vehicles, nobody knows when govt changes the policy that may affect import of CKD parts specially for new players. I am not saying Proton will be affected but there are chances based upon history of Pakistan. Hope proton will go well, if Alhaj do not repeat mistakes as it did with FAW brand.

Personally i think alHaj is worst among all new entrants. They should have developed a plan and communicated with faw owners on their strategy.... May be future of proton is in jeopardy as well.... But i believe proton launching a premium product in contrast to faw's v2 might turn out to be a different scenario.....

AoA. You all are well experienced on the forums and am not here to start any hate. I only wanted to comment regarding my opinion over this vehicle. I really adore the classic nuance of the X70. I was well prepared to get this next year. It has really nice reviews in Malaysia, and I really like this vehicle in its Malaysian specs, including the engine and transmission.
However, the different engine to be provided to the X70 in Pakistan is a very big let down. It is not just about BHP. Both the 1.5 direct inject turbo and the 1.8 provide similar BHP. The problem is related to various aspects:

1. This 3 cylinder engine was made in conjunction with Volvo so that once Volvo fulfils its promise of having some level of electrification in every type of its models from next year: it will have this engine. This engine provides more space for hybridization. Its lighter so also provides engineers with this reduced weight to be transferred to the batteries in hybrid models. They are well aware that there will be vibrations on start-up/low gears especially, but in hybrid cars, that wont be an issue as the hybrids will start on batteries. So its a very well designed engine, but for a very different purpose. The purpose is of future electrified vehicles that need a light-weight engine to complement it. It certainly was not made to be the sole driver of a vehicle.

2. All Chinese and Malaysian R&D of 1000s of hours of tests on the Boyue/X70 has been done with the 1.8 liter engine coupled to the transmission. How can they just then change the engine in this very heavy vehicle and ship it to Pakistan? This was such a let down for me, after I had really made up my mind to buy this. Lots of R&D went into the smoothness of this vehicle with the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine. In fact, Proton Malaysia did change the trans on this vehicle from Boyue, to a wet dual clutch, and did further refinements. Due to these refinements, the Chinese CBU and the Malaysian CKD had distinct differences in pick/comfort. All this R&D is of no use to us then.

3. The 1.5 GDI is being offered on the X50 in malaysia. So why would a new entrant in Pakistan (Proton), really treat us like Indus/Atlas do to us? The differentiation for us with the new entrants should be that they should be honest in their delivery. Putting a lower model (X50) engine in to the X70, and pricing it at Malaysian cost is not complete honesty. I realise CBU tax brackets, where 1.5 really suits the importer, however, the CKD units should be exactly same specced as the Malaysian X70.

4. X50 with the 1.5 engine doesn't have many problems, however, refinement/start-up vibrations have been a real concern in Malaysia. Considering X50 to be quite lighter to X70, how can this engine stack up in long term in the X70 (which is much heavier).

Im really disappointed at this decision for the CKD, makes no sense.
I am so much interested in this vehicle, yet such poor / dishonest decisions keeps me away from booking it. This is just my opinion, and 1 person not approving of this decision doesn't make any difference to Proton/Alhaj, however, I did want to put it in this forum where there are many experts that may feel the same way.

Yes both Bangladesh and Pakistan are getting this souped down variant. I dont like it that we as customers in South Asia are supposed to be test labs for something that was never meant to be in China or in Malaysia.

Nice take on R&D MISMATCH....
if you go by peoples words ( a friend who had been to malaysia 6 months back and had driven x70 1.8 there albiet just as a test drive and in pakistan he has routinely driven 1.8 civic+1.5turbo civic) he now owns x70 cbu he said that 1.5 doesn't feel underpowered at all it is just different at low speed/city drive scenerio , it feels like engine is putting more of an effort to accelerate/speed up....

*P.S proton pakistan page is claining that saga ckd deliveries will start from mid october and x70 deliveries will begin "later"....
Is there a way to find out the queue/no of people who have booked x70

@myasirkhan despite your reservations i think you should book x70 now... If ckd disappoints you can refund your deposit and everything goes alright you will have a pretty decent drive

I have driven x70 of his near multan for approx 50 km and for someone coming from 2006 altis x70 was a spaceship then i decided to forgo my elantra booking and booked x70 think i can arrange the difference in a year

I must appreciate the research and effort you have put in with regards to deciding about a new car purchase and its implications in Pakistan.

The way i see it, Geely gave Volvo a free hand and asked them to develop a world class engine by all aspects such as size, weight, capacity (1,5 litre and below have tax concessions in China), power, economy, emissions and lastly hybridization.

Volvo created an engine suitable to its lineup of vehicles which fall in the premium category, so it naturally went the extra mile to ensure the best product.

Geely then moved the engine and gearbox to China for mass production and economies of scale and also for use in more vehicles. Apparently the engine was also given an award in China by some well recognized authority on the matter.

I have a feeling that the chassis and suspension of the X70 / Boyue is also developed or borrowed from Volvo.

So I see many good points about this vehicle as listed above.
