The way i see it, Geely gave Volvo a free hand and asked them to develop a world class engine by all aspects such as size, weight, capacity (1,5 litre and below have tax concessions in China), power, economy, emissions and lastly hybridization.
Volvo created an engine suitable to its lineup of vehicles which fall in the premium category, so it naturally went the extra mile to ensure the best product.
Geely then moved the engine and gearbox to China for mass production and economies of scale and also for use in more vehicles. Apparently the engine was also given an award in China by some well recognized authority on the matter.
I have a feeling that the chassis and suspension of the X70 / Boyue is also developed or borrowed from Volvo.
So I see many good points about this vehicle as listed above.
