As far as powertrain is concerned, it is being used by various Volvo and Geely cars in many countries. This is a quote from a paultan article about the same 1.5 that proton X70 will have:

"CEVT developed the 1.5 litre turbo three-cylinder range for use in various projects by Volvo Cars and Geely Auto, the latter including the X50 as well as models by Lynk & Co. Since its introduction, the engine in its various forms has been used in over 600,000 vehicles, while the DCT is in over one million units."

The engine and transmission aren't the only thing in a vehicle. I've mentioned earlier as well, they're the only things that are supporting the otherwise unknown brand.
Mostly the parts to give up early or trouble are suspension and electronics. I've known a Faw owner who had to face cable issues, pump problems and other smaller problems; the engine and transmission were never problematic.

So i still keep my stance, unless the vehicle proves its worth in our climate with our "anaari" dealerships and mechanics, and substandard parts, it's not worth the 5.5mil price tag.
I for one would have definitely considered it, had it been 5mil or below for the premium trim, but at these speculated prices, I'll happily be keeping my cash.

if you go to FB page of Proton PAkistan, they have posted video driven all over the Pakistan in snowy mountain and in summer heat desert, they were testing it for whole year since 2019 in super regular fuel. I was surprised by running on regular fuel as this engine is 3 cylinder 1.5 turbo with heavy body is still doing great.
Only the time will tell how the FAW/PROTON dealership/workshop will take care of their customers.

just some more info and I found out just today, the 1.5T shares technology with the Volvo but its not a Volvo engine or not made by Volvo and it does not belong to Volvo portfolio/ engine lineup.

The 3G15T engine goes by a different B3154T5 code in Volvo’s world, but they are the same."

Yes XC40 and X50 share same engine and dct gearbox but different engine code.

I have shared the presentation screen from the Geely. As I said its same technology but its not made by Volvo.

I have written multiple blogs on X70 and always mentioned Volvo engine and also in start of this thread but recently came to know that although the engine tech is same, parts are same, its not exactly same engine as in VOLVO. Again more research is required.

4.69 Million for Executive AWD [ CKD / mid 2021 ]

Being CBU, these display units are obviously has better built quality, fit and finish. I hope when the CKD/ local assembly starts, it retains same level of built quality, refinement, features , safety features and equipment.

As of today, there are 4 dealerships planned and will be operational in next few weeks .
2 in Karachi, 1 in Lahore and 1 in Islamabad.
More dealer network will be added soon.

Once CBU units [ 100 for each variant ] are sold, any further orders will be fulfilled once the local CKD assembly is established .
Any further import of the same model above 100 units, will attract full duty and that would not be cost effective.
June 2021 onwards, a local assembled X70 is planned.
Means expect a longer wait time in case you missed the introductory units.
Proton/ Al-Haj MUST make sure that they sell these units on the advertised price and dealers don’t take any advantage and exploit customers for premiums.
These CBU units will be well built & equipped and there is due chance, dealer plays fishy and funky and grab all these units and then try to sell it over black money.
As a buyer , please stay away from any such unethical business practice / transaction.

The sales and marketing strategy , after sale service, support, customer satisfaction and friendly and welcoming dealer network will only guide and help Proton to succeed. A very good product can easily fails if there is no after sales service. I am sure Proton and Al-Haj knows that.

Proton is going to eat up sale of both segments crossovers and sedans ! Feature packed, technologically richer and from what reviews I have seen on YouTube, it has a smooth cushy ride.

Competitive pricing. Wiped the floor with MG.

Its a win for Proton on all levels.

BTW, I knew pricing last month as Ibad sahab is very good friend of mine. Just because of disclosure agreement, I could not say it.. he is my direct source of info about Proton .

He left MG few months ago and joined Proton.

InshAllah, I will be talking to him over the weekend. Will they to get more info. Obviously he might not share everything. Just keep in mind the X70 CBU are built at robotic facility. Not sure Alhaj had invested in that.

Lets see, can you get the booking breakup for the local model, might not get the imported unit till then but am in transition phase between a few things so cannot outright buy it.

One thing is for sure, Proton has spiced things up with the price and features. KIA and Hyundai will need to up their game
