Quick D.I.Y. Installing Cover on New Corolla's ECU

good practice. The cars I saw at our lovely desi service stations operated by people who look like scarecrows simply made me angry.

First - they quench your HOT engine so it warps - then they will even spray acid or even caustic soda (God knows why) and then flood the sucker with water, finally spray it with diesel fuel and call it a day.

All the above are a high level NO for any car manufactured in the last 100 years.

do not wash the engine with water, it is not needed, get an air blower and blow off the dust.

water in the ecu = a big problem. will cost alot to get a new one.

I used to clean it with airblower but with the passage of time the engine gets dirty and sticky dry mud sticks to the engine so washing is necessary but use normal house hose not the pressure jet .
check the hood's back cover its read as follows


it means that cover the electrical components incl ecu while using water. After that its doesnt bade us not to use water at all but not to use high pressure jet.

my driver used the tap water from the garden hose to ""clean"" the engine bay of my vitz, guess what happened.

ecu fried !!

the car was unusable for a month untill the parts could be sourced and replaced. And yes he had covered all the electronic bits with a plastic bag.

DO NOT use any kind of water in the engine bay, why do you want it to be shiny anyways, no one will pop the hood to have a look underneath.

Even if you want to clean it use the dozens of engine bay polishes available in the market.

Absolutely no water IMO. Experience is the best teacher.

Before washing please ensure that the engine is cold and have not been used in the near past so best idea is to wash the engine always at home.

Even if the cover is on , still do cover the ecu.

Using warm water to clean the radiator fins as u will fine dead insects etc in it after u travelled on long route

you can dry the cover of the engine head with a cloth but not all the parts so for that here comes this air blower . Start the engine after using the blower and keep it running for some time, the heat of the engine will remove the moisture also left back by the blower.
