my driver used the tap water from the garden hose to ""clean"" the engine bay of my vitz, guess what happened.

ecu fried !!

the car was unusable for a month untill the parts could be sourced and replaced. And yes he had covered all the electronic bits with a plastic bag.

DO NOT use any kind of water in the engine bay, why do you want it to be shiny anyways, no one will pop the hood to have a look underneath.

Even if you want to clean it use the dozens of engine bay polishes available in the market.

Absolutely no water IMO. Experience is the best teacher.

Do it with your own hand buddy, y to ask the driver, its your car after all .
In pushto we have a proverb that dont even kill a snake with other person's hand. but the prob is we want to roam around in clean shiny cars but dont want to clean it ourselves.

In my opinion if you do it with your own hand and cover all the electronics properly, there is no chance of any mishap InshaAllah.

Update: After serving me for more than an year I have to retire the ecu cover owing to its de-shaped structure resulting in rattling and loose fitting over the ecu. So today I replaced it with a new one which is not that much bulky and fits very good to the ecu , quality of material is also better and most importantly less in price ie 200 PKR only. The old cover is still with me and any pakwheeler (from peshawar) can take it for free if needed.
