This is a brief account of installation of an aluminum Mehran radiator(Made in China) into a 1985 G11 Charade. Lets review the process step-by-step:
1- Purchased the radiator and fan shroud. The idea at that time was to fit the original Charade fan motor on to the Mehran shroud. My electrician told me that I would need to drill just one hole to fit the motor( this proved wrong later on). There were 2 choices for Mehran radiators in the market.
a- Full steel radiator. Painted black. Made in Karachi. Recommended by most shopkeepers.
b- Aluminum radiator with plastic tanks. Made in China. Not recommended by shopkeepers.
2- Fabricated the fan shroud to accomodate the Charade fan motor. This included a lot of panel beating. Three new holes for the fan had to be drilled in the shroud.
3- Took measurements for the holes in lower bracket in the engine bay, for the upper and lower mounts of radiator.
4- Went to a shop which manufactures steel gates and railings and got the pieces of steel cut based on my calculations.
5- Bent the pieces of steel into brackets and drilled holes in appropraiate places.
6- Installed the brackets on to the radiator. Put in thick nuts and bolts at the lower end and lowered the radiator into the engine bay.
7- Tightened the bracket bolts in the engine bay.
