Radiator Serviced from Lahore Radiator

Found a minor leak in Radiator of Premio since it was reducing coolant level from expansion bottle. And thought to have its Radiator service. Since the ex-owner was completely running it on water. when i bought this car, i add coolant in it.

so here we go picture by picture.

Premio’s Radiator has two tanks. One on the right side and other on the left side.
A very minor leak was detected in the right side wala tank.

How did I know that its right side wala tank if the leak is so minor ?

The radiator was given pressure of 10-12 psi from his radiator cap. And the leak observed from the right side wala tank.

While left side tank was good where the atf cooler lines are attached as well.

check the amount of hard residing residue. this is what happens when we use tab water as coolant.

Even plastic tank had rust in it.
it seems ex-owner was running on water since ages.

if you zoom in, you can see the few of the lines were not opened fully. don't know how they can close the gaps by themselves.

anyway the next step was to open the lines.

He gently used Wire brush to clean this surface

A clear evidence that this radiator has been opened before and someone used plenty of silicone while closing it back.

a sharp object is needed to clean the channels which is super important.

the surface was given heat with burner since it helps to come off the decades long residing dirt in these channels.

and check the amount of dirt scrapped off after giving heat

He took more than half an hour to clean this matting surface of tank.

after that, he used pressure washer to wash it thoroughly with regular water.

most people use battery acid to clean the radiator. But using acid to wash the radiator is not recommended. Just giving it a good wash with pressure washer is perfect.

He used Rubber Gasket and thats all.

no any type of adhesive like silicon, magic, epoxy, depoxy, etc. absolutely nothing.

Just a rubber gasket. And this rubber should sit very properly. Otherwise it won't stop leak.

he cut the rubber a bit from both ends because it was definitely bigger. which means the old mechanic just closed it back by using lot of silicone on it.

This picture is taken a bad time.

He just applied a very tiny bit of the
grease. It was just a tiny bit. The amount of grease which you can see on his
finger, its 5th or 6th part of it was applied on the rubber gasket since it
helps to sit well with plastic tank. Rest of the grease was wiped off with
cloth.

Its time to close the knuckles with plier.
And here is the key.
Don’t tight them in first shot.
First close all these tiny knuckles which you can see.
After that start from one end and till the other end pushed them down with mild pressure.
Once done, then start from beginning and start pressing down all these tiny knuckles with moderate pressure. Plz don’t press them too hard or they will damage.

Once its closed.
They filled the water in side.
Closed its in & out gates.
Close the radiator cap.
And then gave the pressure with hand air pump to see the leaks.
And it was perfect

Now it’s a week this job was done.
I am daily watching the water level in expansion bottle and its good. It has not reduced any water and is driven like 300 km till that service.

By this weekend, will open the lower drain valve of the radiator, will drain the water and will fill the coolant in it.
