Ramadan! a month of Fasting or Feasting?

Aoa guys...

     why its necessary for us to use Iftaar to make up for a whole day  of not eating ??..... why its look like a time to show off to your  family or friends how  much money you can spend on food or what a good  cook you are ??......why almost all hotels like to boast of Iftaars that  offer at least 20  to 50 dishes in their buffet when its beyond human  ability to be  able to even sample all the dishes, much less enjoy a  decent serving of  each ??..most of this buffet goes to waste ....why  cant we restrain ourselves in accordance with the tradition of the  Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ??....why Eating as much as one can in the  sahar and then to eat as much as one can in the aftar becomes a  tradition ??

                    Does ramadan means to spend maximum on eatables ..does it  means to earn the maximum taste?? ... its about time u will see food  all over the place ...u will see food on bakeries, sweet shops and in  that much quantities that they hv to stack it on tables outside the shop  ...u will see huge food stalls in every  market of the city ...u will  see every single hotel offering deals packed with rozadaars ....even the  tv shows will air special ramadan recipes all day along ...

            Isn't fasting means to feel the hunger so that we can feel the pain fo  those  who do not have enough to eat??.... isn't fasting means to  surrender our will to  ALLAH swt by feeling the importance of rizq that  we are given thrice a  day or more than that??...isn't fasting means to  understand that how our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and his  companions fought without having anything to eat ??.....

         Does wasting the money and food..particularly at a time when you see  people starving in ethiopia, somalia  and other places fits in the  Islam?? in UAE alone, 1,850 tons of food were thrown out on average per  day in a month which is known as a time of moderation ....

             May Allah guide us all to be more concerned with our purpose of living  by fasting  in real spirit rather than killing time, waiting for iftaar  and sahoor ..... JazakAllah

Very well said OP. It has taken the form of a cultural event now. IT should be eat to live not otherwise especially during Ramadan and the whole motive behind the religious aspect of it. To keep a check on our never ending desires...

Extravagance leads overstepping the mark, which means eating beyond the point of fullness. This is not limited to one or two or three meals a day. A person may eat one meal a day and eat extravagantly during that meal. Or he may eat three meals without being extravagant.

He Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The child of Adam fills no vessel worse than his stomach. Sufficient for the child of Adam are a few morsels to keep his back straight. If he must eat more, then a third should be for his food, a third for his drink, and a third left for air.”

• I am 100% agreed with the poster of this thread.
• I perform iftari by eating a date or drinking water + simple dinner.
• We should eat less in the month of Ramzan but unfortunately we eat double in this holy month.
• Iftar without samosas, pakoras, chaat, juices etc is a nightmare for many persons.
• Iftari k qareeb har koi iftari lay k aisay bhaag raha hota hai jaisay us ka last meal ho.

kya iftari sirf khajoor khanay say nahe hoti?
kya iftari sirf pani penay say nahe hoti?
kya iftari routine ka dinner karnay say nahe hoti?

^^^exactly .. first we adopted the crappy tradition of these samosaas, pakoraas to our holy fast .... and now this new mad era of iftaar/sahoor deals ... eat and enjoy variety of meals till u explode ..... making a joke of the holiest month of the year was never that easy before .... people hv absolutley forgot that Ramadan is a session of selfcontrol and to feel the pain of poor..... physical body which is consistently given its desires the rest of the year should deprived of its pleasures and the spiritual body which is otherwise consistently starved should be fed ... but sadly here people likes to feel the pain of stomach from overeating ....

The reason sadly is within our own traditions and values ... the desi values .. bachpan say ghar main yehi sab chalta hai. Iftar hai, 10-12 items honay lazmi. Rooh Afza, dahi baray blah blah blah. Same for sehri. Khajla pheni blah blah blah

Businessess have obviously capatilzed on it too, and you see food you would normally not even bother buying in normal days.

Me ? I usually just have a normal meal in Iftar. Biryani, salan ... whatever it is. Or Tea with something. Ive even done a biscuit and tea iftar. But thats usually cus im the only one fasting. (Parents cant due to illness')

i open iftaar with three dates and a glass of water with a little serving of any fruit usually mango or banana ... after prayer hit the gym then dinner before isha prayers ...

it makes me feel that I'm not the only one.
Some fruit with Milk or juice in Iftaar and thats it.
then i have dinner After Isha.
And what's the benefit of this practice? That Awesome and light feeling standing in Taraweeh.

But whenever i get invited to Some Iftar Party. I feel really bad and dizzy in Taraweeh.

^ Jazak Allah bro ...u see we aren't the only ones .. yeah iftar parties can be tempting but the trick is to consume more fluid like water and juices ... that way u will not only quickly rehydrate ur body but also u hv not much desire left to eat ...
