Well, if you cross babusar and land on KKH near Chilas, you will just have to go through a bad patch of 15-16km at Raikot area. Some 4-5 km before the Astore turn, the bad patch gets over and then you travel on a wonderful road all the way till Atabad. We were short of time and we preferred to explore Hunza, thus we dropped boating in Atabad. They do allow crossing the cars on boats but the decision is actually yours. I would never risk that.

The subject at Fairy Meadows is only one, Nanga Parbat. It is awesome and one cannot deny its presence. But at times this makes you feel bored. Koi cheez kitni bhi khoobsurat ho, ap har waqt usko dekhte raho to boht jaldi dil bhar jata hai. Same is the case with nanga parbat.

We decided to leave early next morning and head to Hunza. Our initial plan was to stay three nights at FM but honestly we started feeling bored there. So, we planned to leave one day early and utilize it for Hunza. We told Farman about our change in plan and he refused as according to him the jeep driver cannot be contacted and its not possible to call him earlier at Tatu. We forced and he finally agreed to send a messenger to Raikot which would cost Rs. 1000. Was very strange for us but had no other option. The message was well delivered. We took early breakfast at around 7:30am and we left Fairy meadows around 8:15am. The return journey was piece of cake. We reached jeep point in 70-75 mins. The weather was hot at such early hours. We had to wait for 30 mins at jeep point. Our driver Sher took us back to Raikot in around 90 mins.

The return journey on the jeep was interesting as we guys were feeling a change. We had options now. Just watching Nanga Parbat all the time was not the case anymore. You can see the smiles and excitement on the faces.

We reached Raikot and went to the Shangrila Reception to take keys of our car along with a refund of Rs. 400 as we had shortened our stay by one night. We were stunned when the guy told us that this token is non-refundable. We couldn't do anything, so left our money, took our car and left for Hunza.

The road from Raikot to Hunza is a treat to drive on. One has to be careful as it gets difficult to manage on turns when you have reached a high speed. I hope road between Raikot and Thakot is also constructed same as this road.

A very bad patch was waiting for us as we crossed the gilgit turn

The main bridge washed away and this makeshift bridge was serving the purpose.
