The Astore road was very nice upto the bridge and we felt that we will reach Astore in an hour or so. But we were wrong. The road was not bad overall but with a lot of bad patches.

-- how far is FM from Islamabad ? i guess u turn from raikot or raikot bridge ... so how far is this place on KKH and the once u r off KKH how far ahead.
[Abdullah] FM is around 520km from Islamabad via KKH. Yes, you have to reach Raikot Bridge on KKH which takes 13-14 hours from Islamabad. You have to park your cars at Shangrila Hotel Raikot Bridge. Then you have to hire a jeep till Tatu Village which is a 1.5 hours track. Then you have to travel on foot for around 3 hours to reach Fairy Meadows.

-- can a car go there ? i mean u went by car
[Abdullah] Cars can go upto Raikot Bridge. After that jeep and your legs have to take you to Fairy Meadows.

-- Did u see any families visiting and staying at the place (Fairy meadows only)
[Abdullah] I was surprised to see so many families at Fairy Meadows. I believe they hire ponies from Tatu as it isnt easy for kids to trek for 3 straight hours.

-- Did u get a booking for their camps ? if yes, please give the contact number and name
[Abdullah] Yes, i got booking due to peak season. You can contact below for booking

There are other setups as well but these three are with best location.

-- when u say rs 1000/- per head including meals, is it like a mess where there are fixed menus and timings and just join in .. are there other options like if the food is spicy and kids don't want to eat, is there any second option
[Abdullah] Yes, its kind of a mess where the menu's are fixed. The options are very limited due to the location and the effort involved in bringing food items from far flung areas.

Nice to know you guys added many places to your original "Fairy meadows Expedition". We had been following that thread, guided us a lot in our recent trip to FM and NP BC.

We were approaching Dasu when we met another traffic Jam, much bigger and longer than the previous one. Kofta bhai ko phir bura laga, but...... helpless

We came out of the car and started observing the atmosphere as we knew ke is dafa jaan itni jaldi nahi chutay gi. Masum cultus aik pickup ke peechay chup gayi takay kisi bus ya truck ki gandi nazar na paray us par.

This was the first time when i observed ke hum akele nahi ja rahe, aur bhi boht shokeen hain natural beauty dekhne ke. I found a lot of gora goris travelling via NATCO towards north. This was a very good sign but Saturday's killings at nanga parbat will make sure that no foreigners visit pakistan in the near future. Heavy heart

This wasn't a traffic jam. You guys ran into the convoy which travels from Chillas to Gilgit for security reasons. They stop at various places for security check-ins. Specially of foreign tourists. So that takes time...

Some 10km before Raikot bridge, we met the worst patch of the road. Actually, there was no road. The road was under construction and will hopefully be completed within this season. This bad patch continued some 7-8km ahead of Raikot bridge as well.

You guys are lucky that you got better road conditions after Raikot bridge till Hunza. 3 years back the entire strip, till Hunza, was like this with just a few good patches

Thanks bro. Actually all of us had a chance to get taste of the back seat. So, we all deserve compliments. It was indeed quite difficult for three persons to get adjusted at back seat of a small car for 24 long hours.

May be you are right. But i guess someone told me that the road is blocked. But the blockage had put the KKH in a blossom mode. There were colourful people everywhere. Locals, tourists, foreigners, males, females, kids. It was good to see so many people travelling to heavens.
