Rattling/Knocking kind of sound

Hi,
I own Toyota Belta 1.3 2SZ-FE, 2006 model. I have been driving it for almost 2 years now. The fuel mileage is excellent giving me around 12-13km within city, have not driven on highway yet.

There is one issue that has been troubling me since a year now. When I pick up speed and press the accelerator, makes a knocking/rattling kind of sound like you hear in a manual transmission when picking up speed on a high gear. It happens occasionally and then stops BUT it happens on a daily basis when moving.

I have shown to different mechanics and also put it on scanner, but no fault was found. Now mechanic is suggesting to check the CATALYTIC CONVERTER. Is that the correct approach or something else need to be checked??

I would highly appreciate any kind of help or reference to go to for checkup in this regard.

well it seems to be clogged MAF sensor and deposits in CC get your MAF Sensor cleaned through carb cleaner and visit some diagnostic person for Ignition Advance Pattern's

Try Driving on High Octane.

OK I have done the following things so far:

• On a full tank of High Octane, there was not a single sound of rattling or knocking. ZERO. My Belta ran smoothly without any of these annoying sounds.
• Did this twice: full tank of High Octane, and each time extremely satisfactory results.
• After two runs on high Octane, I once again switched to Hi Super as High Octane is costly and above budget. Unfortunately started getting those weird rattling/knocking sounds again.
• I have tried filling from different petrol pumps of Total and Shell, preference being they were company operated as they claim their petrol quality is quite good.
• After that I got my Catalytic Converted checked and found that it was clogged, got it cleaned and de-carbonized first. Belta ran somewhat satisfactory for a couple of days and then once again back to square one Now these sounds have become a continuous source of frustration and I am completely CLUELESS.

Anyone that can point me towards the right direction and if I am still missing something that needs to be taken care of. Now I am thinking of getting my petrol tank cleaned up, I am not sure...

what is your belta equipped with 1KR-FE or 2SZ-FE ???
the noise you are hearing is Rod Knock and proper diagnostic job would reveal the actual situation

May be @rajaatta can guide if its ok to pour a liter of ATF in the tank?.Heard about it but never tried.

As your car's engine ages, you have to get used to engine knocking because your 2SZ engine has a very high compression ratio; higher than 1kr and 2nz engines.
As a general rule of thumb, the higher the compression rario, the greater the efficiency of the car, but it also needs higher RON fuel. My friend used to relace his vitz after every 3 years with newer model because of vibration and knocking, except the first gen vitz which was stable till the end.
For a cheaper alternative, try filling up 50-50 high octane and normal petrol. I think you have already done the most obvious solutions, but let's see if any vitz owner can guide you.

2SZ-FE. I am not aware of any proper diagnostic center in Lahore, can you please guide me to one?
By the way when I start the car, in standalone mode, it never gave me this sound, its only after running it for like 3-4 kms, and between the speed range of 40-60km/hr that the sound starts coming slowly which increases with time.

Ok as per my experience as you describe the problem it seems to be engine knocking which comes in 40-50 km/h if engine has carbon deposits in combustion chamber's.
