Reasons to buy Mitsubishi Lancer GLx in 2016

Dear PakWheelers,

I'm looking for a car these days. I have always liked Lancer but have always been discouraged to buy by my friends. I would like to know

1) Is it still worth it to buy 2006 1.6 Glx JDM with 80-90,000 kms on the ODO?
2) What is the status of availability of its parts and mechanics in Islamabad? Are they hard to find or not coming to Pakistan anymore?
3) It's general comaprison with Honda City iDSi 2007/08 vs Honda Civic EXi or VTi 2005/06 in terms of maintenance, resale, value-for-money.

Those who own a Lancer and those who have kept it in the past are requested to share their experiences.

Aoa brother lancer comfort and durability is unmatched . Only few people here in pak know properly abt the lancer as i proudly can say lancer is a Gem to have . As far as parts are concerned here in lahore all parts are easily available at mantgomery road . Islamabad mai bhi masla nai hoga parts ka . Plz dont compare it wid local ones as its standard is much high near to mercedes . At last resale bhi buri nai hai yar lancer rakhne wali gari hai investment wali gari nai hai li aur bacihdi . And if u r buying a lancer go for a 4wd business class version its a bit heavier on petrol avg is 11km/ liter . I hope u will understand . Take care . Allah hafiZ.

Salam.

We have a Lancer 2006 1.3 GLX manual since zero meter, current odo 95xxx km.

This is a true gem of a car whose class is unmatched by the local 1.3s, this I can say with confidence.

The car has always been loyal to us Alhamdulillah and we have no intention to sell it even after being pursued a gazillion times.

It's a car to keep for long, not like Corolla that buy it and sell it for profit some time later.

The chances of finding a clean Lancer are very very low, don't know why but people have abused this car badly. Those who have clean units do not sell their cars under any circumstances because the people quote pathetically low prices which makes one want to punch them in the face.

Regarding the parts, the body parts are easily available in used parts markets and mechanical parts are available brand new at 3S outlets. They are not that much expensive as rumoured by the people.

Comparing it to the the 3 C's of its time, that is, Civic, City and Corolla, it is better than all of them. The comfort is amazing, the road grip is wayy better, the driving experience is soothing, the handling is superb, basically it is better in every segment other than resale. Having kept a 7th Gen Civic myself and driven the 06 Corolla and City several times, you can trust my statement.

I have kept two Lancers - first was a 1.3 GLX Auto from Jan 2006 to May 2014 and the next was a 1.6 Manual SR from June 2014 to Jan 2016. Its a brilliant car. The only reason I sold the first one was because it met an accident unfortunately and the only reason I sold the next one was after I had bought a Accord CL9 and there was no space to park it.

In terms of its interior room, steering feel and brake feel its still superior to both my current cars (Civic 8th Gen and Accord CL9). Also, the balance of the suspension between comfort and road grip is unreal! My Hondas may have more grip but their ride is much harsher than the Lancer's.

Parts availability is ok here in Karachi and cost of maintenance is not very high (at least as compared to Hondas). The car has a solid, sturdy feel and I love its exterior as well as interior looks. Finding a decent piece nowadays might be a challenge though. And I've heard that it gives problems on CNG (I've never used any car on CNG so don't know).

I own one so call me prejudiced, we have a 2013 corolla 1.6 standing and a 2007 1.3 passo standing. I have destroyed two cultus'es before coming to this car. And I have driven quite a few other cars in my life. If you want comfort, ride confidence and want to be spoiled do buy it. I will say CVT version is unreliable so if you can find a manual or a 4 speed auto version buy that. Other than if your running is city only then CVT is fine too. Parts, etc are available. I was given the option of being funded by my dad to upgrade my jdm 2006 lancer to a relatively new kei car, I refused. I would much rather go and buy a mercedes after this than any other car in between because this is how spoiled a lancer will make you. The jdm imports were mostly four wheel, there were some that were manual tranny if you could get any one of those consider yourself lucky. Or if you can find a well maintained thai import model woh bhi kisi baat mein buri nai. My car has done 200k km's it is still on it's original shocks. Our corolla had it's shocks done at around 30k km's, my 2009 cultus at 26k km's. The only common problem with these lancers is stepper motor, which manages idle speed other than that they are good workhorses but need extra care. You have to understand itni purani gaari par aatay k saath 20-30k ka kharcha laazim hai, but even a mercedes or a civic would ask of the same money. In my opinion there is not a better value for money car in this price range. 9 lacs is the going rate for pretty much all jdm 1500cc lancers imported last in 2012-2013 I believe.

Here are a few solutions for that:

• Take it out spray it with throttle body cleaner and remove the carbon deposits with the pressure of the spray (do not use carb cleaner it has oil in it you dont want that in your IACV.

• If you know someone in Dubai and if they can pull this off from any junkyard in sharjah and cost you very less as the lancer's iac's are pretty much same for this model across different engines. brand new is also available there if you know your part number will cost 10-15kpkr.

• You can buy one from the used parts market such as shershah or bilal ganj but i would not go that route simply because they sell you whole TB not just the sensor I think and the sensor's are already very old.

• If you can confirm part number for your car then search it on aliexpress and buy the chinese replica from there it will cost you in under 3,000rs shipped to your home. Now I am doing the same thing going to order today or tomorrow. Contact me once you have confirmed part number I will tell you how to choose the right seller on AE.

1.6 was cvt i havent noticed 1.3 autos but if they were they were not cvt.

Dewan Lancer 1.6 is CVT and 1.3 is not CVT (its a conventional 4at)

And why do you want to get it overhauled, I can tell you no one, no one here in Pakistan knows how to do it right! Engine oil tou nai pee rahi? if it is and not giving white smoke and doing fine on compression test both wet and dry then you don't need an overhaul you need 600rs. worth of spares and 4,000rs of labor to solve your issue:p

Get the part number from whoever the Mitsubishi dealer is here in Karachi. From what I have read apparently you're car and mine share the same version: MD619857 AKA 1450A116. You could still get some life out of yours by removing it spraying it with throttle body cleaner (not carb cleaner). It will give you 1-2 months till then you would have review of how the replacement is working out for me!
