Rebel leader in Baluchistan AKBER BUGTI killed

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A prominent rebel leader in Pakistan's gas-rich Baluchistan province has been killed in fighting with government forces, the Pakistani government said early on Sunday.

"It is confirmed, Nawab Bugti has been killed in an operation," Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani told Reuters, referring to veteran Baluch nationalist and rebel leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Security forces killed a prominent anti-government Baluch tribal leader and 24 suspected rebel supporters on Saturday, officials said.

Information Minister Mohammed Ali Durrani confirmed the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti - the most prominent leader in a long-running rebellion by Baluch tribesmen - in the operation in the area of Kohlu in Baluchistan province.

He refused to give any further details.

A top security official, who declined to be named because of the sensitive nature of the topic, said at least 24 militants were killed along with an unspecified number of Pakistani security forces.

PAKISTANI security forces killed tribal rebel chieftain Nawab Akbar Bugti in an operation in restive Baluchistan province, the country's information minister overnight.

"I can confirm that Akbar Bugti was killed in the operation," Mohammad Ali Durrani said.

"Further details are coming and we cannot confirm any other information."

At least 25 commandos and more than 30 tribal insurgents were also killed in fighting near Dera Bugti town, close to a mountain hideout where Mr Bugti was sheltering, security officials said.

But he is leader means Sardar of his Cast ..
Sardar of cast is not little thing.

wasnt he was the baluchi leader who refused to cooperate with the govt. and also disallowed govt. oil and gas industry workers to do some scientific research on the land.

Heard it last night around 12, sad to see the end of a person who should have not been in a situation like that.

He graduated from aitchison college lahore, which itself is one of the top colleges in pakistan and later on studied in oxford university.

Really really sorry to see end like this. We don't know the circumstances which led him to take arms rather than negotiation but fact is that, it is not good for Pakistan.
