it is also known as engine coolant temperature sensor & thermistor switch.

You can check its temp activation function using thermometer & a dmm just like thermostat valve in boiling water in a pot

This looks like the temperature sensor that drives the gauge. I recall the hot engine cut switch had a round plastic connector - the clamp one had a spade like this.

So 2 more observations wrt this. 1) there is this sweet smell coming from the radiator liquid which is familiar but i cant remember what it smells like. I smelled the coolant separately and its nowhere close to this smell.

2) very thin layer of some oil type stuff on top. Not sure what this could be.

I have tomorrow 1 pm appointment eitb Irshad for installing the thermostat. Lets see what happens thereafter

Also, should i go for a compression test too? Will this confirm if there is head gasket issue?

T-stat valve installed. However, auto fan doesnot open even at needle slightly more than half.

However, i reckon the tstat is working properly. Irshad asked me to get the radiator cap and nozzle checked first so i drove for 2 kms and the gauge remains at 25%.

Alright so here is the update.

Radiator neck and cap werent holding pressure, so I went to Tariq Radiator on Tariq road. He checked the condition and suggested to change the radiator altogether as a repair would leak again in a matter of weeks. He gave me 2 options:

1) denso original japanese cultus used radiator in exchange for 6.5k

2) loads khyber used radiator in ezchange for 4.5k.

Since i wasnted to keep things in original setting, 1 was out of consideration.
Also, the loads one now has too many vatiations, loads fins but lical top and bottom etc.etc.

I went to plaza and was offered 3 different types of radiators in copper

1) UAE made dolphin radiator new for 13k

2) loads one (probably with loads fins and local top bottom for 11k

3) original complete loads for 16k with Loads symbol embossed on top.

The old one i sold to some guy in the market for 2700.

And purchased the original loads one after discussion with @brownrose.

The next tazk is to test the auto fan switch using a multi meter, thermometer and booiling water.

@capsat saw your post regarding OEM parts sourcing from outside Pakistan.

Just have a general query. How are parts in Pakistan relatively cheaper? For instance, the auto fan switch. I got one for PKR 1300 which as per Arafat autos was Japanese. However, i checked megazip and other australian websites where the same part is listed at USD50, equivalent to PKR15,000. What is the diffference all about?

Are the ones we getting all Chinese or something we are missing out on?

it must be Chinese one or maybe local assembled.

Japanese Part is not possible at this price even if it was procured in old times and sold now .

where does the needle stick if you force the fan on and keep it running.

The gauge needle being at this level is perfectly normal and the cooling fan will start and run for a few seconds only and mostly when the car is stationary.

such parts non oem grade classified, all these parts are sourced from cottage industry without any hard stamp on metal or plastic connectors. no qc checks, bulk buying, smuggled to Pakistan by weight. printing & packing is done locally.

as the world know Pakistan a rowdy crowd locked in geographical with brilliant scamming & con-skills next to Nigerians.

We did not go any further to test it as the mechanic suspected that any further heat up might blow up the head gasket.
Isnt it better to check it first using the boiling water, thermometer and a dmm continuity thing?

However, this is where the needle now sticks after t-stat valve installed and direct fan.

Assuming this is the 82 degree temperature line, the angle at which the needle was ppinting to was almost double in angle. That is what worried me more. I forgot to carry the dmm to at least measure the outer body temperature

Consult you manual , it shows the different resistance by the temp sending unit at different temperatures,

So a friend of mine is coming from Australia next month. I am thinking or ordering a few original items from tbere which he could bring along. But i obviously have budget constraints too. If i can spend a max of $75, which items shiuld i preferably look for?

I am thinking of thermostat valve ($25) and auto fan switch ($50). The tenperature sending unit is for another $20 i guess.

Also, if anybidy else here wants something, i can ask him to bring along.
