Hi Fellow PWs
I am a very happy and content owner of the 9th Gen Civic Rebirth which has been cared for and is mashALLAH very well kept. Despite being a smoker, the cabin is also pristine.
However, COVID and the requisite precautions have had their toll on the steering wheel. The excessive use of Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizer has started wearing away the finish on the steering wheel at approximately 11'o'clock through 1'o'clock positions of the steering wheel (in my case, the parts of the steering wheel that have most contact with my hands [I know that is not the ideal position to hold the steering wheel from, what can I say, old habits are hard to kill].
I have attached a few pictures for ready reference. The most obvious solution is to get one of those horrific and horrendous o-ring steering covers. However, I personally LOATHE/HATE those covers. Long story short, I would never install one of those steering covers in any of my cars.
The next alternative is obviously getting those slimmer leather-strip based covers that are wrapped around the steering wheel and permanently stitched on. My apprehensions for that solution are:
1. I am not sure how good of a finish I will get
2. I know for a fact that it will make the steering wheel substantially "fatter/bigger" to the touch/grip and that is something I am not very happy with
3. The process is pretty much permanent and irreversible - which means I will be stuck with it even if I dont get a neat finish (1) and/or it does not feel comfortable to grip after the wrapping (2) above.
So that is where you guys come in.
Can anyone recommend (i) a fabric/leather which once fitted will not substantially alter the feel of the existing thickness/feel (in essence a very fine material) with a source (where to get it from) [I have seen a few options on aliexpress. Problem is I wont know how they feel till I see them in person] and more importantly (ii) A Lahore based installer who will guarantee a very neat finish
Also is there any other possible solution (excluding getting the whole steering wheel changed lol)? Someone informed me that the steering can be "repainted" to restore it to its original condition. Honda dealership confirmed that they receive the steering wheels as is and dont have the exact same paint.
