Rebuilding Mazda 1800 (Luce)

Asalam o Alaikum,

I am thinking of rebuilding Mazda 1800 due to nostalgic value to that car.

Here is the pic I got from Internet.

I dont like the rice rocket and hot rod look. Probably going to style it like this .

Love to know any insights into rebuilding or restoration projects you guys did in past. If I am out of my mind let me know that as well.

I will keep the thread updated so it becomes a reference or message for others.

Best of luck for your project. Brother the picture you have shown is a 1500 and not 1800. 1500 differs in shape from 1800 (there are other differences as well). 1800 has a raised bonnet with hood scoopes. Do you have a 1800? post pics of your car. I presently own a 1500. Can tell share my knowledge with you about maintaining this nice car.

Brother the picture you have shown is a 1500 and not 1800. 1500 differs in shape from 1800 (there are other differences as well). 1800 has a raised bonnet with hood scoopes. Do you have a 1800? post pics of your car. I presently own a 1500. Can tell share my knowledge with you about maintaining this nice car.

Thank you for reply, I think red one has a hood in the first pic. I am assuming hood one is 1800. My father had a yellow one with black hood. He passed away 20 years ago so I only have vague memories of the car.

I choose this car for following reason
1. One of last cars my father had
2. Like to restore a car in my life
3. It looks great since it was designed by Bertone and something to do with my liking of sloping rearside of cars like e-type & new merc cls
4. I am assuming it will be cheaper to do it compared to restore/rebuild than American cars

I like your car color MashaAllah sai. Does it have an original engine? More specs? Do you use everyday or weekends or special days?

Our was sold as scrap as nobody wanted to drive it and rust became an issue.
I have to buy the 1800 and restore it. Not sure where to find it, I have seen them in taxis. If you have any tips do let me know.

yes you are right, hood one is 1800. it is a great car to restore, but if you can find one. so far i havent seen 1800 on road since 5 years in karachi. i guess all are scraped by now. My car sadly has been converted to diesel in the famous diesel era, and due to highly priced diesel, it is not a daily driver nowadays. but otherwise it is very fit to be a daily driver. i am looking to convert it back to petrol (funds are a little issue) or may be sale it.

Please go for it. i have done such senti project on my corolla 74 and it is completely worth it. This car is doable and beleive me it carries much more nostalgic value then any corona/mark2 of its time. Lovely machine it is.

Do keep us all updated and i am available for any parts related help from up North

@spectra: can u check for availability of 1500/1800 petrol engine with floor gear or with column shift gears. Also please let me know about disc setup availability from 1800.

i also want to change my diesel engine with petrol one. and restore car back to original specs

I have seen couple of them and the only cars I turn whole head to look at beside Lamborghinis and antiques.

Good to meet all of you... I recently purchase a '67 1500...It's extremely rare here in Malaysia. Does anyone here know where I can find replacement rubbers for it? I've manage to find only the rear windscreen rubber from Australia. Also am confuse by the gearbox? Are the manual's shifter all on the floor and column shift for auto?

Congrats on your purchase. For shifters, there were auto & manual for column and manual for floor. If I remember correctly, 1500 was with column in manual, 1500ss with column in auto, and 1800 with floor shift only manual.
