i already have a donor 1600 lying around, so it'll be a matter of buying Big bore pistons & Barrel sets which'll take my 1600 to 1951cc out of the box (with some machining) for 149 pounds (GSF part number 16515H).
When i get the parts i'll be modifying them with some help from a few friends in the VW scene in the US (1552 design) to take the capacity up to approx 2100cc. If not, i'll be taking the forced induction route.
I'm also planning on doing a 1679cc conversion to my wifes 1500 68 (GSF part number 16515D), straight bold on for 139 pounds.

you're rioght about the parts it's funny how people settle for less here just on the account of their mechanic saying so. the more time i spend adding this gasket and that seal the more i see the costs climbing to aroud the 4 lack mark (not including the duties/customs i'm going to have to pay).
