here we go again:
last trip to the mechanic was a bit of an emergency since the rear bearings (which i just had installed 500km's ago) were screaming and were ready to sieze at any moment.
we removed the entire rear arms to replace the axle boots at the same time (specific to the IRS models) and also decided to swap out the tired old inner suspension bushes (the ones we forgot to do last time). now luckily all my suspension uses urethane bushes and the ride is nice and "tight",.... but it didn't end there.
when we replaced the bearings we almost failed to notice that the spacer in between the bearings was worn out severely which was actually the reason for the last bearings to fail so quickly. luckily khalids assistant Zahid spotted it at the last minute otherwise these new bearings would also have failed in a few 100 km's as well.
I urge anyone with IRS to have a look at this item whenever they decide to swap out the rear bearings. it's rare that they fail but my car was so badly abused all it's life that it happened to me,.. but it's worth taking a look to be on the safe side.
I also got new rear bump stop mounts machined as mine had been removed/broken some time in the life of the car, and then fit the Urethane bump stops i got last year from the UK. at least now there is no risk of bottoming out from the rear.
i have to admit it's so rewarding when you get your car running right. i'm VERY happy that the car is driving so well agian,.. so what if i went there at 10:30am and got back home at 2:30am:)
