Recommendations for Engine Oil in Suzuki Swift

I think he is right. There is no need for 5w40 nor does suzuki recommend it. 10w40 covers extreme cold and hot temperatures so I think its wise to stick to 10w40

suzuki doesn't recommend it but there isn't any harm, and talking about temperature, the lower viscosity oil flows readily and reaches optimal operating temperature more early hence, less sludge buildup, wear n tear if one drives a bit harsher before the temp needle reaches mid position(which indicates coolant temp, not oil temp)

Agree, but why spend on something which will not make a massive difference??? I would rather refrain from using a viscosity that is not mentioned in the owner's manual. a 10w oil is not going to cause wear and tear. Furthermore the poster has been pouring sgo mineral oil, now this sudden transition from mineral to fully synthetic, that too of a lower viscosity can be hazardous. 5w40 are mostly fully synthetic oils here in pak

I would rather refrain from using a viscosity that is not mentioned in the owner's manual. a 10w oil is not going to cause wear and tear. Furthermore the poster has been pouring sgo mineral oil, now this sudden transition from mineral to fully synthetic, that too of a lower viscosity can be hazardous. 5w40 are mostly fully synthetic oils here in pak

price difference is negligible, synthetic oils cost cheaper taking in account their longer change interval. and switching to synthetic oil hazardous in a 17k engine. I don't think so unless its the only oil change in 17000 km. and oil doesn't cause wear n tear it prevents it. some provide greater protection than others. 5w-30, 10w-40 are recommended by pak suzuki but lower viscosity is always the preferred one in owners manual owing to better protection and fuel economy.

Chalain putting the viscosity argument aside for a minute, is swift operating on flat tappets, hydraulic lifters or rocker rollers??? This would determine the api relevance for this car as all 5w oils are api sn and a majority of 10w oils are also api sn

Please guide me. I am using ZIC XQ in my Suzuki Swift 2011 model 45000km driven. I am thinking to shift to Liqui Moly. Should I change or stick to ZIC XQ

Do you have the manual?
If yes, then can you check what viscosity is recommended by Suzuki for swift? I am sure it must be starting with 10w-
Let us know here it first.

By the way, ZIC XQ is perhaps highest best available oil in Pak. Its quality is simply outstanding and I bet will be better than LM's synthoil too or any other imported oil. But I doubt that Suzuki does not recommends this viscosity normally for their old technology engines.

My Swift is manual. Suzuki manual is recommending 10w40 or 10w50. And I guess ZIC XQ is 5W40.
