Recommended engine oil for Passo 2011 1kr-fe

Salam pakwheelers, i have recently bought 2011 passo 1KR-FE with Odo showing 140000, as this was my first experience with having a JDM and i was pretty much concerned for the performance and fuel efficiency of this particular car so i bought it, now one thing i noticed which i thought is unusual is the fuel average indicator,it changes its value much late than expected please correct me if it has to be that way? Now more importantly i was wondering which engine oil to be used so upon reaching the previous owner he told that he used zic 20w50 (much thicker) and he was not sure of its proper specufications, so i went on to searching for it myself on forums, there was a huge debate on whether applying 20w50 on older engines is good or not some said 5w30 is best but there was no conclusion so i need to ask the experts/owners which one they would recommend.

If engine health is perfect, then go for only 5w-30, fully synthetic engine oil, meeting API SN / SN Plus, ILSAC GF-5 rating.

For best for bucks, go for Total Quartz 9000 future series, and change Oil + Genuine oil filter after every 5,000 kms.

With 140,000 on Odo and previous owner being unaware of the specification of the oil he poured and used in the car. Therefore, I believe the car’s engine is far from being perfect. There should be other oil choices for such a used engine.

@rajaatta raja Sahab for god sake ,kindly hire some lobbyists to promulgate some kind of law for using mehboob 20w50 ,otherwise devastion is envitable,and wastage of people's hard earned money,cannot be stopped.

and how you are so sure without utilising any diagnostic tools ?

to check engine health the basic tool is compression tester share the dry & wet compression readings please

Sir, I just assumed that it wouldn't in a perfect condition anymore, because the engine is old and has 140k on odo, who knows how the car was driven & how properly it was looked after. And yes, I can't say much without diagnostic tools.

sir it is very unwise by many of us to declare point blank certain points / faults without having actual access to vehicle. for a free forum like this we shall exercise caution when sharing an opinion.

I got it inspected by pakwheels carsure team and by driving ,the engine seems healthy.

No,the engine is in good condition also the owner had been pouring high octane.

As @capsat. Mentioned that using 20w50 will be wise , i am a bit confused, do you own passo whats the odo reading?

You should go for engine flush try reducing gradually to lower numbers. Use 10w40 if it doesn't reduce oil more than 1L after 5k means you can safely use 5w30.

Thanks for your kind info, even the pakwheels oil guide powered by Shell recommend to use 10w40 if the engine age is 5-13yrs. Any recommendation for a good mechanic in islamabad or rawalpindi will be much appreciated.

Bro, currently I own Vitz, however, I have also owned Passo for about 1.25 years, and as per my limited knowledge, I would say that 5w-30 (at max.) is the most suitable oil grade for 1KR-FE (0w-20 and 5w-20 are still better than 5w-30, but still, not more than 5w-30).

I once poured 5w-40, engine almost died! Pick, power / performance, fuel efficiency, etc. everything almost gone, and it only came back, when I poured in the right and recommended oil grade (by none other than the OEM itself).

Do not follow it! IMO its based on old school of thought. If engine health is perfect, then whether its an year old or 15 years old; it has 10K on Odo or 500K on odo, these charts do not matter.

Always pour in the right and recommended oil grade by the OEM, for peak performance and best results.

some members of this forum are highly obsessed with 5W-30 which they read over a japanese label under the HOOD of a JDM scrap landing into pakistan. they use all possible reasoning for their argument which itself has some fluid base.

Indus - Toyota is pouring 20W-50 in every car rolling out from Indus Motor Plant in Pakistan., are they stupid ?

Atlas - Honda Pakistan attempted experimenting using multi grade synthetic engine oil and still their vehicles are failing to perform at optimum fuel efficiency, they started blame game of RON rating and SUGGEST to use only Hi_octane

a 2016 Civic 1.5 T is running great over shell 10w-40 for over 36000 kms with fuel avg of 13+ km liter in city.

Pak Suzuki pour their own SGO check the oil specs over container it is 10W-40,
sticking to oem grade is best course to maintain vehicle during warranty period, members having platonic relationship of JDM labels with 0w-30, 5w-30 can cross check oil grading poured at respective brand shops in Pakistan during warranty and stick to the same grade after warranty.

by all means 10W-40 is a time tested oil grade from Shell & Havoline.
