I am surprised that there are some 2 dozen plus threads about lubricants, all based on hearsay.
Dont understand all the fuss, I have Altis with 80k on the clock and no issues.
The car was maintained from 3S dealership while in warranty, later I maintain it myself.
I change oil & oil filter @ 5000kms interval and use Total 9000.
There are other precautions that are more important that choosing the brand.
1-Stick to 5000km drain interval, generally recommended by the manufacturer. I have read articles on lubrication where its specifically mentioned that not to exceed manufacturer specified drain interval despite the type of oil used.
2-Always use the original oil filter, which was specifically designed for that engine.
3-Make sure you buy oil from a reputable source; Metro & Hyperstar.
4-Get oil changed in person, dont leave it to your driver.
5-Either carry your own plastic funnel or ensure oil change person cleans it before oil is poured.
Just relax.
