Refurbing plastic

guys some fool cleaned my windshield with surf and it left white stains on the plastic at the bottom. i tried all sorts of polishes but to no avail. finally i gave that greymatter a whir and came up with a good tchnique.

things i used
1. pelikan eraser.
2.formula1 dashboard polish
3.cloth (regular and microfiber both will work)

this is how the plastic was before i did anything

then i rubbed the plastic with a rubber to remove the surf stains. i used the cloth to block the rubber particles from going into the fresh air vent.

i removed rubber particles and then sprayed with formula1 plastic polish.

this is the end result.
. compare wid first pic to see the diffrence, this was done to a 12 year old car so imagine how effective it is

no it cudnt. i polished it five times before doing this but the white grains wouldnt go away. its the rubber that did all the blackening.

So the plastic remains the way you showed in the last picture - even after the Formula spray dries off?

I have an even better trick: put some Vaseline on it and leave it to bake in warm sunlight. Works on plastic, rubber, leather - the lot
You know, when door glass trims get hard and cracky, there's no other way better and cheaper than vaseline. RS 30 worth of it can do the whole car. And it makes old leather interiors very soft and gives a new life.

@ judagee i didnt rub it hard enough to get rid of all of it some was sill left. if i rubbed harder all would have gone

Let the sun bake it for a good long time, then rub it off with a tissue. It will leave a good long lasting matte effect.
With the leather, however, you don't even need to rub off.
And the really good bit is that it works with every leather product; jackets, old shoes, upholstery, ... donkies, kids - the lot

brothers i think you are getting confused. i dont want to show how to polish the plastic this is a diy to show how to get rid of that white layer from old plastic.

okay guys i have got another tip. if your car is very old and now the plastic itself is starting to go bad.

i. clean it with glint glass cleaner until no dust is left
ii. cover the desired area with a very thin layer of engine oil.
iii. leave the oil for at least fifteen minutes.
iv. clean it once again with glint until all the oil is gone from the surface.
v. apply formula polish to make this work last for a few months.

i have personally tried this on my car's interior and it was marvelous. i learnt this from the computer casing refurbers @ hafeezcenter.

Liquid Show Polish.. Never heard of it. Is there a brand you could recommend, or is that the brand name itself? Availability: local hardware store?

You get these dime a dozen - Kiwi, Cherry Blossom, Chinese etc - available everywhere check your nearest grocery store. Even your "Mochi" will tell you that he has been using this product since adams.

if you are referring to liquid joota polish i guarantee you it isnt a good idea. it will stick to your clothes whenever they touch the plastic
