Relay with Head Lights

I want to learn some thing. the electrician told me that put relay with head lights, it will enhance the light(90W Halogen x 2) and protect the wiring. But he said he will get direct current from battery using a wire and give it to the relay then head lights bypassing all the wires and fuse of the car.

I want to ask it is safe method? This method can cause short circuit? Relay prevent short circuit?

I am using 65-amp AGS battery in cultus so i cant afford short circuit.

Currently two horns and radiator fan are getting current from battery without fuse protection.

I got it done in my Alto 2008 almost 2 years back. It worked nicely.I observed lights became brighter and wider. When i drive some other Alto at times without this, i feel unsatisfactory.

i had done this to my mehran and was using some bright halogens greenish but original ones after relay install lights were near hid standard
i was using 1 relay for horn
1 for rad fan
2 for head lights
1 for Cd player
i say go for it
as now my stock alto i got one relay for an aftermarket horn but it lacks that ummphhh!

Relay is used as a electrical load switch because the combination switch is designed for a specific electrical load but when you add more load (lights etc) then the switch points can melt entire combination switch so electrician uses a relay and operates it with combination switch when you turn on light the switch turns on relay ..

I have installed a relay in my suzuki mehran. This is a relay box with 3 relays + 1 fuse. I have read in some forums that excessive current can burn the silver inside the lights. I am using 90/100 tubes in my lights. I have turned lights on for only 5 minutes and then touched the headlights and they were very very hot. I wonder what will happen on 3 hour drive? Pls advise as I don't want to be in a mess when out with my family.

2 of these relays are for headlights (high/low) and 1 relay is connected to CNG kit. Short ciricuit is not a concern here as there is fuse in the relay box too.

Pls also comment on the relay for CNG is it a long term solution because I was having problems in starting on CNG therefore one electrician attached a relay, it worked for a few weeks and then another missing problem on cng started. Then electrician changed another coil and it worked sound for 6 months and I am having the same problem again.

CNG Problem: Car starts fine on CNG and drives fine until 15-20minutes plus. After this when I SLOW it on a jump/breaker it shuts down (as the accelerator completes stops giving race despite pushing the pedal to stop it from shutting down). After this it won't start on cng but only on petrol and then it may be converted back to cng on the drive. I have also noted that when the car shuts down and if I leave it shut down for 5 minutes at-least and then try starting then MOSTLY it starts on cng.

Is it something related to relay/wiring problem which might be over heating the CNG kit? Or my cng kit needs servicing for cleaning of any dust/junk in the cng?

CNG kit is installed is 7 years old and the car is 99model means wiring is also old but off-coarse its been repaired routinely. I will appreciate if I will receive some tangible/technical replies instead of generic replies like: get your wiring done/cng kit services etc etc.

You can use external relay for high current switching. Some time it works fine because external wires are of large size and can handle that current.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO USE FUSE IN WIRES THAT YOU TAP DIRECTLY FROM BATTERY.

i'm also planning to get relays in my mehran's headlight as the electrician told me that it will make the lights brighter and there will be less load on steering assembly (he meant the high/low beam switch in car)

There is no harm in installing relays but a fuse should always be used.

Secondly if you are using high power bulbs 90/100 Watt it is advised to use a relay.
