Reliable hatchback under 1.5M?

Hello,

Need suggestions on what is a good used hatchback to buy in a budget of 10 to 15 lacs? It will be a car that my daughter will learn to drive on, occasionally take to college and use within the city. Priority is fuel economy and reliability. It will be driven by my daughter (who is still learning to drive) so don’t want something that requires a lot of maintenance.

I assume local cars would have better parts availability easier maintenance than imported ones? Have never bought a used car before so am a little afraid of being scammed. Had the new alto been available without own, I would have increased my budget instead going for used but they are too expensive right now. I mostly see 2012-2017 Cultus ads in my price range. Would appreciate any advice.

It will be better if you stretch your budget a little and go for new shape of Alto , you will get an Alto for 18 model for 17 lacs starting.
Other options include a cultus , wagonR etc.
If you can go for wagonR , it will be good as it has a great fuel economy, is easy to drive in city , low on maintenance and will be in your budget.

There are few cars like wagonR, cultus 2017(new shape)
and alto.
If you increase your budget a little bit like 16-17.5 then these cars will easily meet your requirements.
All cars are of same category.
Alto has better fuel average then all but others are also good.
Its hard to do a comparison between these cars.
Which car you can get in least price and good maintained go for it.

For a new learner and first car, nothing beats a mehran in all categories. Its cheap to own, repair and drive.

She can smack it anywhere, or park it anywhere and it wont matter a bit. Any common workshop can repair it with basic tools.

Your job would be to get the car to “factory control spec” and keep it there, meaning you make sure that the cooling system is top notch, sealed and tight and system filled with coolant mix, thermostat valve in place and cooling fan working good.

Once a month have a gander at the axle boots and tires etc to make sure they are good, repair as required.
When she is confident enough with driving, she can get a fancier car, but for time being, mehran is best!
