Toyota Team Europe were crying for a lighter platform to do rallying when the Group A cars were put into WRC. This car was of the same vintage as the Galant VR4 and the Subaru Legacy. Those cars too were changed for the EVO and Impreza. The final straw for the Celica came when TTE was forced to cheat (they added a mechanism in the intake manifold to bypass the restrictor, giving upto 50 extra BHP) and were disqualified. Toyota Motors Japan then gave them the go ahead to develop the Corolla to be developed for rallying. Between the two though, I'd take the Celica in a heartbeat. It looks so beautiful, and with big white 5 or 6 spoke rally wheels, it's downright menacing! The same cannot be said for the Corolla however.
