Repainting cars...How good is it actually bc of

Well because of the putine (don't know how to spell it, hope u guyz get what i m talking about) that is necessary when the car is being repainted, and it's life is around 2 years after which it starts to swell and peel off, how good is it to get a car repainted, I mean if u want the car to keep the perfect shape, would it need to be repainted after every 2-3 years.......... I am talking about the conventional painting methods here........ and what about the baked paint procedure, a guy in this field i talked to said that now the baked paints don't need to be sprayed at high temperatures and that means no "baking" actually involved in it, got the name because some time back the temp required for these paints to set was high but now they are as good with normal temperatures........... the only benefit out of a plant is that their is no dust......... How true is that ?

And how about the putine thing ? It going on im my mind as I was thinking that if an old project car is taken and very fine work is done on it, it would start to deteriote in a couple of years............. or if there is some remedy...

depends on thickness and if it is not hit in anyway, it lasts longer. rust is the worst enemy.

well we have this paint business for last 35 years...... and about this puty info i will let u know but i never heard that the car is to be painted after every 2-3 years. we have paint it lasts much longer..... never heard like that. but will confirm u inshaAllah....

Baked painting is some what better than the spray paint.But the main disadvantage of this type of paint is that when a vehicle is kept in "Oven" or Baking plant,it remains under high temprature for a quite long time...this is the time when the mtal of the vehicle starts losing its flexibilty and it gets stiffed after vehicle is out of plant.Its not apparntly visible or felt but when you drive this vehicle then you notice that vehicle is littl hard on jerks and bumps and does not give you that comfort what its hould give.
Moreover on turns and on speed,vhicle rquires a flexiblity which is void in such baked painted vehicles and leads to early wears and tears of vehicle plus uncomfortness.....
so avoid it.

@wasim bro. salam. may i ask u where u got this story about disadvantage of backed paint system, I got painted many cars in such a plant . i got my last beetle painted 4 weeks ago. we give temrature about 70 degree for about half an hour to dry the paint and this temp never effects on the vehicles,
same is the case with minus temp,, on my jobb we have a lab where we have about minus 50 degree to check the new imported cars , and mostly it never effect the efficiency of vehicles, generally the car metals are same allover thec world, Pakistan may not be exceptional.

well khanji, Pakistani assembled cars do have cheaper and lesser Metal in their body, and there have been lots of quality concerns about it!

Well regarding the Epoxy Putty used for smoothing out dents. The reason there is swelling is due to the metal not the putty. What happens is that the metal becomes bare and more prone to rusting then previously. Coz the Factory process is more detailed and extensive to prevent early corrosion on the metal and does not have to be penetrated as it is dipped in in many different layers of under coat before the top coats are applied and goes through the process of electrolysis. But after the accident the denter rubs away everything the factory had put on, in order to take the dents out. And the rubbing process takes away from the metal thickness making it easier to rust.

So it is the metal that rust and swells under the putty that which is visible on the paint not the putty coz putty is not corrosive.

Racerf1 explained it all, just a few words from my side.

more putty is applied on metal surface by those denters who dont do their job right, i.e. to make surface appear smooth either they ve to work hard and remove all minor/major dents OR follow a much simpler way and apply more putty and give a false belief of "nice job done" to the customer.

i ve even seen denters filling holes with putty and putty eventually falls off in few months.

in such cases, even minor accidents cause peal off of the paint altogether. so avoid heavy application of putty. keep an eye on ur denter.

I concur with @Robin a good denter uses the least amount of putty. Denting is an art too and not every one is good at it, and if they are good, its either they have too much work and quality is lost again.

A good denter would "lead load" the car and not use any putty at all.
