I am considering getting my Corolla XLi (2NZ-FE engine) overhauled and would appreciate your expert advice and guidance.

The main issue I am facing is a sound from the engine crank when the RPM exceeds 3000. Additionally, there has been a minor reduction in engine oil, along with other indicators suggesting that the engine may need a complete overhaul. This would be the second repair, as I previously had the rings repaired instead of addressing the head assembly due to its high cost.

I am seeking information on the approximate cost of a full engine overhaul based on recent experiences. Moreover, I would greatly appreciate recommendations for a reliable and skilled mechanic in Lahore who specializes in such work.

just convinced my friend to go for kabli assembly for his fielder
engine had blow and giving trouble every now and then
but it was 1NZ
cost 140k

save money for kabli assembly. my 2 cents
intead of overhaul.....

1NZ and 2NZ are both very very old engines now, all the ones in scrap would be literal scrap.

Its a terrible idea to rely 100% on a scrap engine unless you plan to tear it down and fix it too.

If customer cannot afford repairs then its an even worse and higher expense to buy a scrap engine and hope its good.

got 30 days test warranty
changed nothing.just oil filters and coolant
car was driven rwp to khi without any issue 4th day after the swap

Most of the 1nz/2nz aren't rebuildable now as well due to water being used, blocks / cylinder walls pitted / chipped off etc etc

Bro, I'm not entirely convinced that 1NZ and 2NZ engines are a lost cause. these engines are still being used in many cars, even in newer models. I think they're still alive and kicking, especially since many cars are still being imported with these engines, particularly from Japan and other countries.

From what I've seen, these imported engines can be very reliable. I can share my own experience - the day I bought a used 2NZ engine and installed it in my car, the drive was amazing! But when I rebuilt the engine later on, the car just didn't feel the same. It was like the spark was gone.

And let's be real, not all used engines are scrap. The market's huge, and there are plenty of good-quality engines out there. We just need to find the right ones.

Ive had to deal with a lot of headache with scrap engines, what you consider good to use maybe ok as a “chaltee ka naam gaadi” but if I test it to industrial standards of leakdown and pressure test, then power balance, it will fail.

Seen it a lot. So I dont bother putting my name on any scrapyard engine install job, the so called 30 day warranty is useless as customer doesnt like to pay my labour cost twice.

Any scrap engine coming in will be subjected to testing and eventual repairing before I install it.

And if your new engine “had lost its spark” you probably cheaped out on repairs, if you follow the toyota repair manual (which is quite intense) you will notice a lot of unorthodox ways and procedures which your local machinists wont agree to)

Whats the need for that massive diesel rated battery? And the wrong terminal type too?

Rebuilding 2nz can be done as you have described the crank noise too.

Expect a budget of around 150-190 K.
And if opt for a partial rebuild done in market these days which costs around 40-70 k then it's better to keep driving it.

New timing components and oil pump plate is now too expensive now a days
