Restoration: Corona 1987 (t151) New Project

Gentlemen,

I am new to PakWheels and my first project is a Corona 87. Its been in the family from the start. I worked hard and put it in decent shape back in 2009 but then I went away to UK and no one really took care of the car. It was overworked, the engine overheated and seized. Now it needs:

-A New Engine
-Complete body work/denting painting
-Interior work
-The Lights need cleaning
-Chrome garnishes are in bad shape (Any suggestions on this will be welcome)

Suggestions on places in Islamabad where I should take this for work? and do remember this is not a very common car so availability of certain spares is going to be an issue...

Will soon post pics of current condition... Would appreciate help from experienced members on forum on guidance for new engine. Should I change from 1.6L to 1.3L or 1.5L??

I think a blend of both but primarily fuel efficiency. I was thinking on the lines of a dual vvti 1.5 or 1.6. But I am not an expert on engines so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I know what kind of engine would be suitable then I can get one from Japan easily and hassle free.

then I'd say 1NZFE/3ZZFE if in good condition ,with complete un-cut wiring!

i dont know about the fuel efficiency of 2ZZGE , it would be lovely though!

A Bolt-On Would Be A 1.8L 7AFE Or 1.6L 4AFE Of 1.5L 5AFE....Very Good Robust Engines On Original Brackets....! Not So Much Complicated Swap ..You Just Need To Get Wiring Straight

If You Can Handle A Complicated Swap Like 1NZ Or 1ZZ Or 2ZZ...Then You Need To Do Your Homework Before Jumping Inn....! Totally Dependin On Mechanics Doing These Swaps Is A Leap Of Faith...Beside Brackets And Other Stuff You Have SO Many Other Things To Look To Get These Running Straight

It does have the 4ALU but it is beyond saving so I need a swap. I do not think a full time performance engine is something I am looking towards, more towards the econo power. I think I ll take the leap of faith but I ll take it to a proper workshop even if that means spending more money because the last time I swapped an engine in an 88 corolla the experience was far from satisfactory.

Between the 1ZZ and 1NZ which one is preferable and what are the differences? Also which of these would be easily available in Japan or are they made for different markets because I am going to have one imported as scrap.

If your are to import from Japan then also check 4AFE and 7AFE if available in good condition. Good, economical engines and also have good torque!

If i would have access to someone in Japan then i would order straight Levin halfcut with 4AGE!

4AGE's....Good Engine But 20v'...You Always Need HOBC To Make Them Run Better....! fuel Economy You Can't Bet Much As Its Totally A Performance Motor...!

Look For A 7AFE In Mint Condition.....Bolt-On Fit....Ample Of Torque ....

If You Need Something Fancy Like 1NZ/1ZZ Then You Will Find Plenty Of Them Here In Yards Already... And If Import...You Can Get It Complete With Uncut Wiring...

Get a 7afe or 5afe ,it is almost bolt on and is economical also.

Man i was just saying, Better for economy is 7AFE/4AFE

4AGE is a good engine which requires HOBC and millage is 7~10

That was helpful thanks guys! I ll start work on procuring an engine and aim to put the car into a workshop in start of January. I ll keep posting updates and pictures and document the journey here.
