I bought my supply from Karachi - its available at specialty chemical supply places and it branded as rust convertor (mfg name CRC) - I posted a picture of it long time ago

yes, its called 'Rust Converter' and I bought it from a paint shop that I buy my paint from....its a German product packaged in Pakistan...its Rs.130/- per bottle (spray on)

the other option is to use phosphoric acid

pipes inside the tunnel have been cleaned and repaired....owner of a neighbouring workshop insists that I replace the pipes....as the welded areas could damage the cables running inside the pipes and will break soon. have to decide today and get done with it. Fuel line is already replaced with a new one as old one was badly corroded. Once pipes are done, I 'll apply an epoxy primer inside the tunnel and finally an application of 'autoshield'. By tomorrow inshallah I would have welded the bottom plate back in place and work shall start on replacing the pans.

dont rely on those rusty pipes, they can become a nightmare for you when the pan is sealed.

Get some appropriately sized galvanised pipe rolls, straighten and install/weld in place. Another thing I would love to do is fill them with high quality grease, so the cables can operate smoothly - when finally welded - spray some cold galvanize on the weld areas as the coating mustve burned off.

What do you intend to do about cables for this vintage VW - There are some places in Karachi that make custom cables for any application. I usually used them as they are cost effective and very very good quality. depending on what parts of the cable you can find/make/fabricate.

Handbrake cables are in v good condition so leaving them as it is. Have filled the pipes with grease. I am going to the workshop now to get samples of pipes as will get new ones.

all pipes replaced today...two bigger dia handbrake cable pipes are not galvanised but thats ok, will paint them tomorrow, rest are galvanised and will get a coat of primer and then autoshield on top. That should do it.

I know a few old cable walas, Qasim etc. and that is no problem at all....mechanic taking care of that

some pics taken yesterday from morning till late night

After rust converter treatment, the tunnel was cleaned and a coat of epoxy primer was sprayed. Later, new pipes were installed one by one, eight altogether - choke, accelerator, 2 X handbrake, fuel line, 2 x heater and heater inflow pipe.

Today, pipes will be checked for correctness, cables will be instaled, another coat of epoxy primer to cover the weld marks and new pipes, a coat of 'autoshield' and the bottom plates will be spot welded.

Good going Mohsin Bhai, our limitations here force us to compromise on the same, job with pipe is very well done. There's no match for the craftsman ship, but its hard to find a self motivated denter & painter having high consciousness on Quality, so do get it right 1 has to be there all the time!
