Well everything seems to be going great except that the passenger side seat is wrongly placed. It is supposed to be the driver's seat and not the passenger seat. You see the position adjusters (little handle at the base of the seat frame with white knob) needs to be along the spine on both seats whereas in the above pics its away from the spine - means this seat actually belongs to driver's side. I hope its just the seat and not the seat channel that has been wrongly welded on the passenger side.

It would be a good idea to add a fuel filter just at the start of the fuel line under the tank and one after the line emerges from the spine in the back, above the tranny before you mate the pan with the body. Especially check and replace Shift Rod Bushing if there need be. It could be difficult replacing it with body on the pan.

I checked the seats and strangely both the front seats (from same car) have the seat adjsutment knob on the same side...here's a pic for you. Though the seat back adjusters are on opposite seats which would determine the correct seat.

Please also make sure that all suspension bushings have been replaced and everything has been greased thoroughly which needed lubrication.

Waiting for the pictures where the two have mated and Splitty is back on her feet!

now that the body is back on the car, the doors are next. Not a simple quick task as the areas where they fit need work. Will take it out for a spin one of these days...

You are wrong in the seating department!! :) All VW seats (as far as I know) have the adjustment lever on the RHS as seen in the pic and the pic of the true pair that Mohsin bhai posted next.

The design is such as it is meant to be operated by the right hand, should the person be the driver or the passenger. The actual seats we see were sourced by yours truly off a butchered 62 bug and is a matched pair indeed. 

Your advice regarding twin fuel filters is good indeed. Locations are spot on too. All must remember to keep the filters (AND fuel lines) away from moving parts and hot exhaust components, heater boxes included.

 It may come as a shock to most but the Split bug would not have the front (front is front of car) nylon shift rod bushing. VW started putting a small frame with the bushing inside the tunnel somewhere in 1959 (if memory serves me right).

PS: While on seats, do note that Split seats are unique in many ways and the 62 vintage items were as close as we could get. Anything pre 64 would look mostly correct with the squared off boxy corners but to the purist many details would be amiss.

I would not be surprised if they do not fit straight off on the original runners on the passenger side original pan half.

more seems like mishandling - when lifting such a heavy object - ribbed rubber gloves and back support are mandatory. A make shift backsupport can be made with a piece of thick plywood and a leather belt.

source all original kamaz bolts for this car and have them cad plated. This car deserves them. And also try to source some waxoyl to spray into the spine tunnel to prevent any rusting. twin fuel filters are a very good option. Just use a big filter.

Thank God that I can still lift pretty heavy weights without a hitch. Asad has seen me do that. Car wasn't heavy at all. It was just at one moment that when we were lowering it the angle and more weight caused a little discomfort for a few seconds....no cuts or bruises. Having said that, one should always wear protective gear while doing such work.....I have bad habits and they die hard.
