Thank you so much! I hope so too. It's still a long way to the final paint job! It's not going to be a period stock color, that's for sure:) I favour shades of blue metallics with light grey leather, or ivory, even deep red. More specific suggestions would be more than welcome.

I always think that rebuilding a classic is like watching paint dry, or watching grass grow. You never truly become aware of the beauty of the creation until you're done with it. Which, again, is a bit of a misnomer, since you never truly ARE "done with it".

Are you planning on keeping the stock drive train? Personally, I'd love to see a 200 km/h, 6 second Merc on the roads.

And if you are planning on abandoning stock mechanicals, what do you have in mind? Even if you deviate from the well-beaten path, I'm sure that there is no dearth of more modern, more efficient, more proficient Merc engines in Pakistan. Something to give this beautiful car some real fire in the belly!

These pictures show the repair/replacement of the driver's side of the floorpan. The right rear section is also done. These pictures also show the right rear door shut line being out of "true" and the hinges need adjusting to make it flush with the body.

Hello again :). Am sure u will agree with the viewpoint that rebuilding an old car is a test of nerves, patience, 'good' judgement, planning, not to mention the wallet and also brings into question your sanity!..........till the time that the old bird roles on its wheels and bursts into song!

As for the fintail, it's definitely not going to be stock. The original engine, altho a 6 pot , is good for about 100bhp only. Luckily the car came with an engine out of a later day 280S and is mated to a 4 speed manual, which I woud like to change to a 5 speed for now. This engine, even in carburetor form will churn out around 160bhp which will be a significant improvement. This is the plan for now but if something more suitable crops up, u never know.

An additional 60 odd horsepower should be just what such a rebuild would need, although, given the sheer bulk and weight of the old beauty you shouldn't expect it to be much of a tyre-shredder. The 5 speed is a good idea, too...and should add to the economy and acceleration.

This is the idea for the now. Am lookng to ensure it can keep up with modern traffic and have a decent rate of pace when needed. Will check for difference in absolute weight with the car the engine originally came from. Right now don't want to get into susp and brake upgrades which will be needed to handle a more powerful motor. The 5 speed will b out of a relatively modern W124.

The right rear door has now been removed for paint preperation after adjustments to hinges and main body to get the shut lines straight.

You're very right. Unfortunately the car is being worked on in a very tight place and for the moment this is about all can manage. Also I want to show detail. Pics should improve as it moves to the paint place.
