You're very right. Unfortunately the car is being worked on in a very tight place and for the moment this is about all can manage. Also I want to show detail. Pics should improve as it moves to the paint place.

MY advice dont throw away the rims sir they are unique and i love them..:D..

Am glad u suggested that as I plan on retaining these rims even tho they are not period ones. They are of 14 inch diameter and will compliment the car using 205/70 HR 14 tyres or similar.

The car came with the later 2.8 liter straight 6 from a later model W116 which should be a substantial improvement on the original 2.2 as the power output will go up from 100bhp to 160. The engine and gearbox alongwith all ancillaries has been removed for refurbishment/ repainting of the engine bay. Some smartass actually cut into the bulkhead to fit a non spec wiper motor....a new height in "joggarrz"!!

And finally! The old bird moves onto the paint stage after completion of basic denting which has taken almost 3 months sometimes I feel the 2012 models will be classics by the time this one will get done!!!

Best of luck with the paint preparation Do make sure that the painter block sands the sides with all the doors on and properly aligned so that you get a perfectly straight finish around the panel gaps.

Thank you! Yes, the doors will be put back on in a few days. Getting the panel gaps and shut lines right is vital ! Will be posting pictures when the work gets to this stage.

And so the perpetration continues! This time on the left side. This is the start of the next somewhat tedious stage, but hopefully it will actually LOOK as if we are getting somewhere )

The paintwork continues. The old paint on the bootlid has to be scraped using paintstripper. Onwards and upwards!

The bootlid has been rubbed down to bare metal only to reveal how putty and filler were used to fill in the dents without bothering to knock them out first!

The next coat of filler being applied as the process for building up the surface for paint continues.
