Restoration story of my Spitfire convertible

you can see from the above pics that I have placed a door brace between A and B posts.this is the most important thing to do before you cut the sill or floor because convertables lack roof so all the strength comes from floor and sills and if you dont measure the gap between A and B posts and lock it and cut the sills,it is IMPOSSIBLE to fit the doors and have equal gaps afterwards and then there is nothing you can do about it.......any how.
then we came towards the fender rear side and fender lip,choped the rusted parts made replacements and welded in place.....see these pics...

whole area was again sended to shiny metal and was given two coates of the same heat proof imported primer and outer sills were made and spot welded at place.after that the things started looking like this......see pics....

tomorrowINSHALLAH I will post the pics of original/specimen spitfires,specially the close ups of these wings and the patterns/farmas made out of card board and chart paper on which we fabricated these parts........THANKX FOR YOUR PATIENCE................

IN all my years of working on cars in PK i have never seen someone do such a "correct" restoration of a car. I'm very impressed with te level of professionalism and the attenton to detail. you are lucky that the denter you have seems to trully be an "ustaad".

i'm looking forward to more info and pics as time goes by.

Threads like these make Pakwheels so addictive. Its just like reading a novel by Sidney Sheilden or some Harry Potter series. Suspence and waiting is killing us. We want to know what happens and want to go to the last page, but author knows how to keep us glued . We are waiting for more. "Yeh Dil Mange More".

@storm.thanx bhai,,I have great interest in sports cars since I was a child and spitfire was/is my favourite.and yes you are right,the guy I found is really a magician.you cant imagine that how 18 guage steel sheet melts in his hands.but I made all the farmas/patternd my self and I made paterns of steel strips to measure the depth and true shape of all the panels .like floor pans which will be our next project....very interesting...you wont believe your eyes....actually I have pics of the floor pans and patterns , but first of all I would like to show you the floor pans of original/specimen spitfire so you may be able to compere both of them.Only then you will be able to see the details and enjoy.I shall try to get some pics of the original floor pans.

once again THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR APPRECIATION.sorry I could not come online yesterday coz I was out of Lahore.
any how we had finished rear wings from outside,lower parts of A+B posts with sills (outer and middle).one thing to be noted here that inner arches of the rear wings were also gone specially the outer half were rotted away.the previous owners of this spitfire really abused the car.I think a lot of boys(or girls..I dont know) used to sit behind the seats on the panel where convertable roof is attached.this panel is not designed to carry weight and this panel is supported on the inner half of the inner wheel arch(rear) one of which was cracked.
some one overlapped the cracked parts and welded them together.so the whole area was out of allignment and was shrunken.so we cut that weld pulled the two parts away to the exact measurement according to the original/specimen spitfire,made the missing part and welded into place.....see the following pic carefully you can find that piece welded into place...see the pic...

now the outer rusted parts of inner wheel arches(rear) were cut away and the missing pieces were made exactly duplicating the original/specimen spitfire.it was very difficult to make patterns of these pieces in detail because the difficult position of this part.(NO ONE WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE WHEEL OFF AND SEE THE INNER ARCH IN DETAIL .......LOL)but I could not satisfy myself and made the exact pattern and made these pieces.by looking at the pics in detail,you can see the grooves and curves made exactly like original.just notice the small dich/groove in the middle of the pieces the depth,shape and posiition is exactly the same.these pieces are again made in 18 guage sheet which was really a tough job and took many days to make..see the pics .....
