Restoration story of my Spitfire convertible

Sir, I see great effort you are putting into this restoration. A lot of body work! But when you complete a part or a phase of prject, the reward is much greater; a feeling of satisfaction and pride. I know a little of this feeling (see my thread of "Project Jeep M38").

It is also a pleasure to see that there are others who are into restoration projects.

here are some more pics of cutting the under side of b post(front side of rear fender) and rear side of rear fender......

from the above pics,you can imagine how bad the things were......now I want to share some pics of the sills(chopped away outer layer and showing middle layer)there is another pic of the rear floor pan showing poor condition and rust.actually I am going in a little more detail because when you will see the HAND MADE REPLACEMENT PANELS AND PARTS and getting them fitted at these same places........you MAY NOT BELIEVE that how they are made only with the help of TWO HANDS,hammer,dolly and not using any machine or any sort of press.......

salamz brothers and thanx for your interest and liking of this restoration.....
the first panel which was made was the piece behind the rear fender.I have already posted the pics of that part (rusted part chopped away).now I am posting the pics showing making of that piece...please note that it is just made in one piece without heating and the steel sheet is guage 18.(our now a days cars bodies are made with 22 or 24 guage)here are the pics...

the lower inner side of the same fender(boot side)was also rusted so rusted part was cut away and replaced with the healthy metal......see the pics...

then lip of the fender was made exactly according to the pattern(farma)from the specimen car(will post the pics of original car+farmas)and both these panels were welded into place...se the pics...

..lower side of A post (pillar of the wind screen)was also rusted the pics of which I have already posted.the rusted part was cut and replaced with 18 guage healthy sheet .lower side of B post (piller of the door striker plate) was also rusted(pics already posted).rusted part was chopped away and replacement piece was made exactly like original and replaced.the part joining these two posts is the sill and in case of spitfire it is actually the MIDDLE SILL.which was completely made new and replaced...see the pics...

then outer side of the left sill was made just according to the measurements of the specimen spitfire ,again with 18 guage steel (not even 1mm difference was tolarated).all the area (which was to be closed i.e outer side of the middle and inner side of the outer sill) was sanded to shiny metal and was given two coats of american heat proof primmer (to prevent it from rusting afterwards) and outer sill complete was welded into place..after that things started looking like this........

now we came to right side...right rear wing right sill (outer,middle and inner) lower side of A and B posts,wheel arch and rear side of rear wing...from the pics I am just posting ,you can see the previous condition of the sill and related stuff and then replacement of rusted/damaged panels.see the pics......
