Making this new thread as previous one has become too lengthy
.
My dad personally imported this Datsun 120Y in 1979 when returning from Libya. I was 5-6 years old at that time. Later, I learned to drive in this car, and drove it for more than 16 years!
In 2005, I had a major accident on Sh-e Faisal, in which my car was sandwiched between a Civic in the back and Charade in the front. Car was totalled. Due to the emotional attachment with the car, I restored it from scratch and used the best materials I could find/afford.
Listing some of the major stuff:
New Chrome Bumpers (front and back).
New Lights (front, fog, back, sides).
New paint job (after full scrapping, denting, priming): Dupont Pearl Beige Metallic, personally purchased from Dupont Store.
New Radiator.
New Alloys (13") with new Dunlop tyres (SP Sport 1.75X13X70).
New Carpetting (Beige) with rubber and foam underlays, including the boot.
New door panels (Beige) with arm rests and courtesy lights.
New Ceiling Lights (Halogen spotlights-cockpit style).
New Console Box.
New suspension (complete replacement with original japanese parts, including tie rods, ball joints, front and rear shock absorbers and coil springs).
New Aircon (Denso, with "split unit" blower).
Car already had a Pioneer CD Player (2-piece) and CNG.
Don't have any pictures specifically taken for displaying on this forum, but found a few in my old collection.
This car has been in the family for 28 years (!!!!). We have literally grown up with it, going from school to college to university.
The best thing I like about this car is that even after such a major accident it could still be restored. I don't think new cars have such a long life, or they are repairable to such an extent.
One spooky thing that I would like to share - The day I saw its meter reset to 000000 miles in front of my eyes on the way to the hospital, was the day my father passed away. In 28 years it has reset only one time.
My father is not here, but his car is still with us.
I have spent more money on it than the car is physically worth of, but it is still going strong. It's my daughter's first day at school today, and she'll be going to school in this very car in which we used to go to school.
This Datsun has served three generations!!
