Forunately it IS a camera issue gentlemen there was very little space to take a prop pic. No way was I going to settle ( or even make an 'after' photo!!) of an actual sag. The floor pan is sort of okay in this region.
Glad and relieved to hear it is just a camera issue.
I have to smile at that observation My sense of perfection could never match the ones you gentlemen subscribe to, but yes, am very picky about lines, shapes, contours and the HARMONY that they need to be in to perfect the form they may represent
These pictures show the metalwork being done on the right door sill and the 'straightness' of the gap between the body and the door. Enough space to take this pic this time ! And haven't even started on the floor pan yet...next job, front suspension, petrol tank etc to be taken out to get to that crack!!!!!! ( the exclamation marks are in ref to a comment nmshaikh made about cracks on one of his threads in which he questioned the whereabouts of the Pakwheels censors....... )

I am surprised that you pay so much attention...maybe you should have shared the comment itself. I only vaguely remember it.
Dear Asim Sb.,
The old VW is in safe hands indeed. You remarked once at my work that it was brain surgery. In fact it is you, Sir who is the brain surgeon:). It is gratifying to see the precision work going on with the sill. Just a word of caution, "rust proofing" If you visit any one of Nasir Shaikh's thread's he has got rust proofing down to an art.
Door gap looks perfect. Also the crease line just below the windows match up just perfectly.
I think your guy is jumping the gun here. He should wait to repair the door pillar until he has done the heater channel. The heater channel is pretty shot too. (from what I can make of it in the pictures) Secondly the repair of this section is not just putting a fresh skin but about peeling the skin off and repairing what lies under. from the size of incision he has made, I doubt if he has reached under/inside to tackle the area where the hinge is tightened. I will share some pictures later to elaborate.
Brain surgeons work with their hands..........
Pictures would be appreciated. Will check on how he has gone about fixing the section u r referring to. Certainly not put up with any cover ups here!!
I have found one that shows the 'insides' of the A pillar. Water usually gets in from the top and rusting starts from the bottom up. The section that the hinge is screwed on to rusts first and the tell tale signs appear later in the outer skin. The first sign of the pillar weakening is the sagging of the door. The top hinge is safe as its located high above the rust line. This procedure is being done on one of my projects. I will take some pictures when I visit the workshop today.
Thankyou, please do that. Would like to compare and correct if required.
Sorry about the delay in posting these. Just some back to back VW related events ...Anyway here are two pictures that I could manage and I hope this gives you a fair idea of what the procedure involves.Inside the A pilar is a second layer that is welded to the heater channel This is the section that bears the load of the door. The outer skin is more of a cosmetic layer and although it too contributes towards the rigidity to the pilar the main strength is the inner layer you see in picture 1 and 2. To get to it you need to peel off the outer skin a good 4-6 inches and graft a new piece of sheet metal. The hinge is attached with screws to a threaded plate that sits behind the newly grafted sheet metal. Once the inner layer is welded and the hinge aligned, the outer layer is fashioned out of more sheet metal and welded.
thankyou for these very detailed pictures. Will see progress and compare and use these as a sort of a template if needed spoke to the denter and he said all the old metal has to be cut out. Will see for myself when I go over next. Rgds.
Update. And in a single word YUK!!!!!!
will let the pictures say the proverbial thousand words. Horrors just do not seize to show up!
O Dear dear dear!! How on earth did this car go so bad?
Looks like the car has been repaired in the past as well and there are signs of welding of the body to the chassis. You have a long way to go on this. The good thing is that the body has turned out nice.

Oh Wow!! Now THAT is a truly sporting, not to mention SUpporting gesture, my by the looks of it "VW in the veins" friend!! It looks simple enuf to fix but I know the complications that can result from not getting it perfectly right, so your posting this will be invaluable! Now all I have to do s recall my PACVWR p/w Really appreciate the effort. Looking at that mess I actually felt for this sad little car!!
I have abs no idea. What is worse are the shoddy repairs. This just HAS to be fixed!
Yes, some silly sod has actually done that!! And "repaired" is a very flattering word to use in this instance!! My "long way to go" just got longer but this is a route am only too familiar with ! All repairs have to be done ( or in my case supervised !!) with total integrity and if any screwed around car deserves that , it's this sweet old thing
