Hello Abbasi sb, good to hear from you. Yes, things are on the move but am sure there will be many a pitfall still !! Now that the CCOG "season" is almost over, am also directing efforts to finishing off the Fintail and the 109. Am hoping to make the next season more mercedes oriented

Reezvaan , hello! Thankyou for your input. I think I may have sounded a bit too glib in my post about the deal with the denter. I would like to think that not taking the body off was based on sound reasoning, however, having said that, it is, at best, a calculated risk which in the restoration scene is a route that I have often taken over the last 20 many plus years!! I freely admit to being more of a realist than a perfectionist here too.

Soon i will be turning to you for help in parts. Would also like your input on the possibility of turning this 65 into a 67. The way I see it, it will need the correct deck lid, the rear track width to be increased, the correct top half of the rear bumper and the flat wheelcaps and correct rims.

What do u say?

Abbasi sb, it's heartening to see the interest you take and i thank you for the encouragement that comes from it. This resto' is turning more and more into a test case for putting old vee dubs together !!
Have given up on the idea of turning this into a '67 look alike for several reasons, the primary one being the alteration reqd to fit the later model's deck lid. I will try to extend the rear track tho to give the car the more balanced stance of the post '66 cars.

Asim Sb. good to know that is decided to stick to the original look. It will make your project proceed smoothly and less likely to hit pot holes. As the Jaguar is pretty much done, I on the other hand, am trying to convince a cousin of mine to let me do up a Rover P4 carcass lying out in the yard in his house. But it is turning out a difficult task convincing him. He wouldn't sell it nor is he too gung-ho about putting it back on the road. Breaks my heart seeing it just rotting away.

   I would never recommend altering the rear track width. Chances of a ruined car are most likely. I am very much happy that you decided against going for a 67 conversion.

Have always felt the rear wheels are too inward upto 1966, so even if the actual track shouldn't be extended am looking for a way to get the chunkier look, maybe play around with the rims although I prefer the originals. Lets see

Wow!!! A rover P4 in THIS part of the world is a rarity indeed!! Always liked the shape and the rear "suicide" doors! I hope your cousin sees the light and łets u loose on it

I have , years ago, owned a couple of rovers myself from 1979 to about 1983. The first was a 1972 P6, a 3500S which meant it was manual and went like stink. The other was the P5B coupe and was a gentleman's carriage if ever there was one! Will see if I can dig up some old pics.

In the meantime.....vee dubs!!!!

Asim Sb. looking forward to the updates on the fintail post. Impressive list of Rovers under your belt. Yes this might be the ONLY Rover P4 in this part of the world. Anyway, the project is not going anywhere. I think it may be a cash flow issue. Needs a lot of bits from UK. That will cost.

I hope the old "Aunty " as these were called , will roll her wheels under its own power. I wonder if u could get hold of some pictures of it. Not that they are particularly classic but I believe an SD1 knocks around your neck of the woods also. Supposed to be a 2600...

Sorry don't have any pictures of the "Aunty". Owner is not too gung-ho about the whole project. Haven't come across the SD1 yet. However, did see it's distant relative, a Triumph 2000 MkI at the Pakwheels motor show in Islamabad. I think it had a Corolla running gear.

I have to say your painter is pretty good. Looks like the pale yellow on top of the grey primer is guide coat. Am I correct?

I have this question. Why is newspaper and tape being used when painting? you should remove the glass out and see if there is rust under the rubber. The condition of car tells that there will be rust. and this is a Karachi car so no doubt.

Mainly because windscreen rubbers are not available just yet. Local ones don't fit very well. You're right, there's bound to be rust. The other issue is the risk that the screen may crack during removal, a risk on a veh that is almost half a century old!! They will need to be polished once the resto' is nearing completion and the thot of getting that done is daunting enough!

Abbasi sb, yes, the car will be finished in a shade of green Will pass on your compliment to the painter! He was a young apprentice when I got to know the guy almost 20 years ago and is well familiar with my oddball requirements !!
