the way people look at me, I DO have horns and a tail i rem you writing here about the lights you used during a paint application. A temporary booth does get put up using huge plastic sheets and pedestal fans etc but am afraid at the end of the day, this is all amateurish work for all the tall claims made on these forums!
New metal has had to be made up many a times using the cold roll process particularly for sills and door skins and even once, almost an entire front wing and part of a bonnet! Am afraid I messed up big time on the Fintail you have been following by not opting for new door skins. The ripples on the end result are shameful after all the expense and effort and only reiterates the fact that a paint finish is dependent on prep' and also the metal surface.
Thanks you have a pristine VW there. I have pictures from the show on my Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.422319907857306.1073741825.110782769011023&type=3 I would love to shoot the vehicles when ever it is convenient for you. Do let me know.
Hello again. Have looked at your Facebook page, you have concentrated on close ups. Any particular reason for that other than the "less is more" concept?!
I see you location is Lahore. This may sound odd but i have a few cars that I would like to be photographed ( or sketched even....) not so much professionally as artistically.....does that make sense.....?! I will forward my contact details in a personal message and maybe we can have a chat about this.
cheers!
This is going a bit over the top I suppose, but am using this wing to sort of illustrate the importance of getting the shape right at this stage rather than using filler etc. The wheel arch curvature is coming along reasonably well. By way of strengthening it, a metal rod has been welded in on the inside and a grinder will be applied to smoothen the area before it is coated with anti rust material. The third picture shows just how rotten part of this wing is. New metal will be welded in.
Thanks a lot. The reason for close ups was due to the rush. So many people were around that it was impossible to take a clean full picture. Actually it was quite frustrating. I got your number will text you before calling

Yes, I rem' that particular show and was worried about veh damage, but in the end it was all good! Looking forward to hearing from you.
I noticed that the pictures are now coming out straight:). BTW, VW is coming along good so far.
That's more by accident than design am afraid! Still have to get around to using a computer The VW has a long...long.....LONG way to go yet. Sometimes I think I will have to bequeath these restorations in a specially drawn up will......!
Honestly this fender is on the death bed, if your panel beater is accustomed with a rasping hammer and some old school blacksmithing then he can work it back into shape.
I personally don't endorse the welding of a steel bar on the inside of the fender lip but if that is the best so be it. I would have preferred welding / grafting new sheet metal and forming of the edge.
I raise my hand for the Daimler
Let me see how the guy gets on........
For now am letting the guy just get on with it. The steel bar is more for support rather than shape. New metal s being put in as and where needed. When this one is done , will post pictures.
Well....if your door bell is rung and u open it to see ghoulish character with some keys in his hand and an XJ parked near by, you'll know why.......!!!!!
He shall be welcomed with open arms, given a hug, shaken by the hand, a cup of tea and a place to spend the night before he heads back to Lahore
The progress with the errant front left wing so far. It is now being polished whist loosely attached. The area of the main body to which these wings are bolted also need strengthening/ new metal welded in. The middle picture shows where the rusted section (shown in earlier pics) was cut out and fresh ferrous added
Another Bug will live for another day after this project is completed.
yes.....this one was just crying out to live....
Just to relieve this relatively mundane stage thru which the 65 is being put, am posting pictures of the origial Instruction Manual that came with the red 69 when it was collected from Modern Motors on Peshawar Rd ( very near Shahnawaz but on the opp side) in the summer of 1969. As the car was rolled out of the showroom after a full PDI, the dealership owner ( a Fez wearing elderly character in the Cowasjee mould....) came out and actually said a prayer.....
The price paid was around 18k, a brand new bay window was 31k!
i also came across some more "before" and "after" photos of the red car and am using them to help me focus on what I hope will be light at the end of the tunnel that will show the 65 at the shiny stage too

Two words .... "Time warp". Save that owner's manual, hard to find in this country!
