I have the original Jag's owner's book with notes in the margin in dad's handwriting about somthing or the other. I have been able to also buy a fresh book in better condition. Both are 65 years old. It is these little touches that set our one family owned cars apart.

Yes, it IS these little touches that mean so much now.....and the old family photos showing the early years of the car, my siblings and I as kids and parents young......then the later ones with us all grown up, families of our own and parents ageing.....and the car itself a sort of an anchor in time.

Moving on, the front left fender is more or less done, it's been shaped and strengthened. Am posting pictures of the left rear fender , the bolts of which are proving hard to loosen. Don't want them to snap as drilling them out would be a pain.

And the tedious denting continues, damn car is covered in filler! Am glad those horrible running boards are off!
The underside is going to be yet another set of screams!

Some more pics of the work so far. The strip down continues with removal of door handles, glassware, chrome strips, upholstery panels, rubber strips etc which will be labelled and put away for now.

The rear right wing is repaired and polished for now. Final setting at time of fitting with new channels. The body where the LEFT rear wing was shows the corrosion / rusting which will be sorted after the doors.

It happens all the time. My Oval window ragtop was parked (read abandoned) for almost two years at a workshop in rawalpindi regularly visited by VW enthusiasts who brought their cars for repairs but no one showed any interest until after I decided to buy. Ditto for BOB (the Big orange Bus) the westfalia which was parked for almost a year at the same workshop before i bought it for a friend. THEN everyone and their uncle wanted to know if it was for sale...

Is there are moral of the story???

My Oval window ragtop was parked (read abandoned) for almost two years at a workshop in rawalpindi regularly visited by VW enthusiasts who brought their cars for repairs but no one showed any interest untill after I decided to buy. Ditto for the BOB (the Big orange Bus) the westfalia which was parked for almost a year at the same workshop before i bought it for a friend. THEN everyone and their uncle wanted to know if it was for sale...

Yes there are "Grab it" when u can, dont cry over spilt milk andddd u cannot have all the vw s in the world.

I don't know how much it costs to send a car over from karachi but it only costs Rs 2500 to send it from Islamabad to karachi. Depending on the nature of work, it may be worthwhile considering sending it here for a rebuild. We can boast of having the best VW mechanic this side of the Durand line. he is the hakeem who can tell the VW ailment by checking its pulse.. may Allah give him long and healthy life.

That's an inter city problem! However, in my experience, the guys who work on the cars need to understand your psyche and what it is that you actually want them to do! This may sound a very simplistic approach but you'll be amazed at the variation in customer requirement ranging from working to a base price to a full fledged no holds barred cheque book resto' . You need to knw your own mind!
