Hello again! I think the main reason people don't work themselves is bec the basic expertise available is relatively inexpensive. As a youngster in the UK with old bangers, it was a "given" that all maintenance and innovation (!) would be done by myself. A couple of friends and I used to work together on our cars, or what passed for cars and learnt the concept of how synergy works. Between us could manage quite a bit except for welding or applying final coats of paint.
I hope I will be able to continue to amaze you ( and am saying that with all humility) although nothing I have is anywhere near as amazing...or as pampered...as the subject of this thread.
As for your dream, it's a great one if you are not looking to make a commercial venture out of it in our particular environment. Having a bespoke facility for your own vehs is where the buck stops I feel. The main point to keep in mind is that a proper restoration/ recommisioning/ refurbishment of a classic or older car does not come cheap and in my experience generally people are reluctant to spend apart from the occasional few....and then too the expense is aimed at making the car look good rather than ensure its mechanical and structural integrity under that fancy paint.
I personally get a bit peeved when the first question am asked is how much did the car cost, how much did I spend on it and then the ultimate gem that I must be mad.
However, after having said all this, it would be great to be a hands on restorer and going thru your narrations , the incentive to do so is taking root
. A bit like you, I am semi- retired bec I wanted to have a good few years whilst health and other important facets of life are still relatively intact and so making the time for some of this will not be an issue!
Apologies for going scatterbrained and well away from the topic
