Reverse Gear Problem in Toyota Corolla AE-100 / Engine 5A-FE

Asalam o Alaikum Respected Forum members I need your help and guidance as per the topic. I have a Toyota Corolla 1996. AE-100 / Engine 5A-FE. The problem is with its automatic gear, when put in reverse it takes a lot of time to start going on, If I continuously keep pushing the accelerator only then it starts to go in reverse that too with a solid thrust. Now I have read the posts here they suggest that in this type of situation gear needs to be changed, so experienced members please share with me the cost in Karachi how much would it cost, I need cost of second hand I believe new would not be available. Please suggest a good mechanic as well. And any option of repair can these automatic gears be repaired ?. @Xulfiqar Sir If you can share your knowledge as well, would be most thankful.

do you mean that forward motion and momentum is with zero drag & car performance is trouble free,

you face the problem only when doing a reverse. Is it only in the morning / or when car is cold? or otherwise.

when was the last time you have changed the Transmission Fluid & Transmission Filter.

if it is never changed do it 1st, it will not be as expensive as buying a Transmission from scrap.

Thanks alot, for your reply at first it was like this now when I put it in "D" the car takes some seconds and starts off with little drag, it is not worse as the reverse gear. When the car is started cold, then it need lots of revving when put in reverse gear to get it going, but after some distance is covered and the car is hot then it works but not with perfection, now sometimes when I need to reverse and this is after covering a decent distance so the car is hot but the reverse gear will give-up and I would again need to rev and sometimes even I get out of the car and do it manually. I don't remember changing that is how long.

time to Change ATF fluid & Transmission Filter Now.

use the pump method to change approx 7 ~ 9 liters of ATF in the Auto transmission.

Drain the atf using plug, open the Transmission sump and replace filter [ or get it cleaned using petrol for pressure cleaning ] - put sump back be careful for the sump gaskit.

1. Use a clean big funnel and insert it over atf filler hole.
2. Remove 1 ( one only ) atf cooling line from radiator bottom to drain in a tub
3. Top up funnel with fresh ATF
4. Start the engine to idle
5. keep pouring fresh atf oil in funnel and watch color of draining oil as soon as steady stream of FRESH atf comes out of cooler line, shut down engine.
6. connect the cooling line back to radiator bottom.
7. start engine put car n D with Brake pressed rev upto 1000 rpm for 15 seconds
8. do the same in R
9. check the ATF level in transmission using the Transmission dipstick. Level-Of if necessary

drive and check performance of vehicle share if problem persist
