Rim size myth

Corolla 2015 gli comes with 195/65/R15
i want to install 215/45/R17
Question: is that gona kill my fuel average ?
its a myth as currently the steel rims are very heavy that comes with the car from the factory and allow rims will be lighter i dont know what rim size will effect the car over all but its not only for the looks i felt car like a kite on motorway with 140kmh with these factory fitted rims maybe the profile is too large so i kept the car speed at 120 and 100 because of that feeling. i guess if i change to 215/45/R17 that will give me a good grip and good feel on high speed but will that kill my fuel average ????

Yes, it'll affect your fuel average as tyres would be wider and would have more grip. Also, you will have to recalibrate your speedometer to show correct speed reading. Baaqi, steel rims are actually lighter than the Chinese alloy rims available in the market.

You will always feel this way as Corolla isn't a race car and its road clearance is quite high.

Bro the new size which you are interested in installing, will severely affect your fuel efficiency, and also make your ride & driving pleasure extremely hard (as 45 aspect ratio is considered tyres with low profile). No doubt, the road grip might become better.

Original Lenso rims, Vossen rims, and other similar well reputed brands offer light weight alloy rims, otherwise, the cheap Chinese and Taiwanese brands rims available in the market are extremely heavy weight, and heavily affect car's suspension, and other related aspects.

Not only will it kill the fuel average; say goodbye to your suspension and steering components as well. Also, forget about taking u-turns in congested city roads.

Corolla 1.6 / 1.8 variants can take upto size 16~18 wheels, you need to be careful with selection of rubber tyre profile so that it does not scrap with the body and while going around curve.
Lighter the Alloy Lighter the rubber over it , better the fuel average.

Speed display over Odometer will vary +/- 10% , or you may reprogram the ECU VSS to NEW Wheel size using Toyota OEM TECH STREAM

few people say to install 205/55/R16 as thats the worlds factory fitted size for these cars and engines
after reading these comments i have cancelled installing R17s
i will look for lenso or vossen rims in 205/55/R16 i would never ever go for Chinese ones.

plus sameer also said that kite like feeling on high speeds is no going anywhere as road clearance is quite high.

you can get better stability by dropping your car 1'' on maxspeed lowering springs... should cost like 18k

that kite like unsafe feeling in high speeds thats all about groung clearance right? i will find lowering springs after eid but have to travel in a day or two lagta hai wohi 100kmph pay jana paray ga its a very very long travel

Are you sure your tires are fine?? I mean they might be worn and in need of a replacement.(2015 is like 4 and a half years old, and tires even if less driven do have a shelf life).
I know the feeling you are talking about had a gli automatic 2015 and above 140 it felt like the car was driving on water, but at 120 you will be perfectly fine as long as your tires are in good condition, above 120 is not even worth discussing as technically it is above speed limit on motorway.
Now bought a facelift Altis 1.6 2019 and it is much much better in terms of stability compared to pre facelift, altho no comparison with civic , but high speed stability has improved drastically, on the contrary the comfort on small bumps has decreased as compared to pre facelift

tiresare new its dunlop tires with 65 profile. i was thinking to get grande in 2015 model if thats better on high speeds

No grande 2015 i.e pre facelift will have same feeling, as it has exactly same setup, Only in 2017+ facelift Altis 1.6 and grande have tweaked suspension .
try and maintain 120 and you will be fine.

Yes, and for sure. For getting rid of "kite flying" type feeling, I think you will have to lower your ride, by changing springs, etc. This feeling I think is all due to unnecessary high ground clearance in your ride.

yeah i will do that now after Cardino told me that grande 2015 also have the same feel so paisa kharch karna bekar hai i will buy the lowering springs instead. i will share my experience here

This is to inform everyone. I was having this kite like unstable ride on high speeds on motorway on gli 2015 1300cc. I have sold the car because of this issue. Dear toyota Kia kahon aap ko.

Its best to get the "mota tire solad grip" mindset out of your daily thinking.

Grip is more from the chassis and suspension design.

E.g. drive a good well sorted first gen Mazda Mazda6/Atenza. It uses thin 205/60-R16 tires on it, but it holds the road like its on rails, it has too much road holding grip for a family sedan. Its due to its suspension setup, not tires.

Corolla is not meant for road grip or any other driving experience, its to get yourself from point A to point B only.
