Road Trip - Karachi to Quetta

As Salam o Alaiqum guys

I have been searching threads regarding road trip from Karachi to Quetta (by car) but was unable to find an appropriate one. So here, I took an initiative to post some of the pictures of my road trip with family to Quetta, Ziarat, Kuchlaq, Sanjawi and Dukki which went awesome. The road condition is excellent through out Quetta City and there is no security concerns / issues at all in between. I stayed one night at Khuzdar and took rest on various parts of the national highway (N25). My ride was Honda City (IDSI) 2006 which gave me around 16 -18Km per liter and took almost 38liter of petrol to reach Quetta.

Ziarat Residency (Home of Quaid-e-Azam). Tragically it was burnt down by the terrorist and was rebuilt in 2004. Ziarat is indeed a wonderful place and the atmosphere / environment there is very good for health. You can smell the fresh fragrance of Juniper tress everywhere and the most interesting point about Ziarat is that it have a ZERO crime rate ... yes that is correct, no case of theft, robbery, snatching, murder or any sort of crime were reported by the local authorities.

Hanif Sahab .... Its an honor for me that you are following my posts. You are a role model for travel lovers. Your trip to Ziarat in snowfall season was wonderful and I did save some of your photos in my laptop.

I stayed at Khuzdar Cantt No. 3 (Officers mess - FC). Its located along with the road side (Khi to Quetta). Their officers mess is located right beneath the mountain and its really beautiful. I couldn't get a chance to get some photos as FC took all our cameras and cell phone along with our ID cards. Although we had the reference from Colonel in FC but they still charged us Rs. 2200 for a night stay at their mess.

I did found some hotels at Khuzdar city but my uncle said they are not suitable for families. There is a hotel name SAARC which is near to PSO petrol pump and it looks nice and clean from the outside. I found that they were charging Rs.1000/- for a night stay but wasn't offering their room for families.

I stayed at PTDC motel (Ziarat) where they charged me Rs. 3000/- for a room. You can get the same room at Rs. 500/- during off-season.

PTDC were charing Rs. 5000/- for this cottage but it can easily accommodate 10 to 12 persons. Off season rate is Rs. 1500/-

Cherry Trees at PTDC Motel. You can eat as many as you like

If you are willing to go to Punjab side from Ziarat; you can take Ziarat road which lead you to Sanjawi, Dukki, Loralai, Mekhtar, Rarasham, Fort Manroe, Sakhi Sarwar and than D.G Khan. The road is newly constructed and you can find some breath taking views. By the grace and blessings of Al-Might Allah, there is no security issues at all on this road. Locals are very friendly and they will guide with keen interest in any case.

Here are some pictures of my travelling towards Sanjwai which is around 70Km from Ziarat.

Spent quality time with Mr. Inayat Ullah who owned a road side cottage where he sell original and pure honey. He offered and let us take rest in his cottage where he left us all alone for like one hour. This shows his trust and kindness towards the guests.

which hotel you stayed in quetta?
and why did you break your journey at khuzdar? can't we reach same day from karachi?
Petrol easily available on the route khi-qta?

We have some relatives at Quetta where we stayed.

I stayed at Khuzdar because we wanted to explore this city and its surroundings and it was quite worth a while.

Yes you can go non-stop from Karachi to Quetta and good quality of petrol is available at Winder and Khuzdar (PSO / Shell). It will take around 9 hours to reach Quetta with an average speed 100km/h.

CNG is only available till Winder.

Although there are CNG stations at Khuzdar but they mostly remained closed due to non-availability of gas and same is the case at Quetta and Ziarat.

I suggest you to fill up your CNG tank from Winder and than try your luck to find CNG at Khuzdar. Else you can use petrol to reach Quetta and Ziarat.

Assalaamualaikum.
I am planning a trip to Karachi - Quetta - Ziarat in last week of Dec 2018 - Need guidance from the people living there or from people who have visited these places.

We are 6 persons. Me, my wife, 4 children ages b/w 3 to 13. Planning to stay 2 nights at Ziarat.

1. Best transport service to Quetta? Is Daewoo Pakistan the best? Rs.1300 per seat daewoo.com.pk
2. Best transport service Quetta to Ziarat?
3. Best hotel in Ziarat? I have heard PTDC motel is the best. Just checked their charges, Rs. 3,500 per night
4. Is water available through taps and showers or through containers only?
5. How to survive the temprature there as it's 10 to - 12°C there? Do we have to cover ears & nose while outside? Till what time can we remain outdoor as the temperature is below zero from 7pm to 10am?
6. What are the timings of market, hotels, restautants?
7. Places to visit in Ziarat?
8. Is Quaid e Azam redidency open for public these days?
9. Places to visit near Quetta? Is there water in Hanna lake at this time of the year.

Kindly guide ASAP so I can plan my visit.

Your plan seems to be very nice but keep in mind that the temperature at Quetta and Ziarat will be around -3 to - 10 at night and you must take all the precautionary measures before going to these places as you have kids with you.

1. I suggest you should take "Sadabahar Bus service" as they have their terminal in main Quetta city at Saryab Road while Daewoo's terminal is near to Hazar Ganji and from there you have to take local transport to reach inside Quetta city. Sadabahar may charge you 1500 to 2000 for their 2 X 1 seats.

2. You may hire rent a car service from Quetta to reach Ziarat. Charges may be in betweek 5000 to 10000 depend on a car. I do not have much knowledge about the bus service from Quetta to Ziarat.

3. There are many options available at Ziarat for staying, You may hire the complete guest house in around 7000 per day but most preferable is PTDC motel as they got nice rooms and spacious lawn. Do bargain with them for room charges and negotiate at around 2000 to 2500. Ask them to provide you 02 heaters in a room as one heater will not be enough at night time.

4. Availability of water would be a big issue in winter season. The water get freezed in taps and you must check the availability of geyser and hot water at your hotel both in Quetta and Ziarat.

5. Take along with the warmest clothes you have. Do take some additional blankets with you for kids.

6. Main markets remains open till 7 to 8pm.

7. Quaid residency is open for public from 10am to 5pm.

8. There is no water at Hanna lake and would be useless to visit there. Rest is your choice.

I suggest you should take "CAR CAB service" as they have their terminal in main Quetta city at Saryab Road. Sadabahar bus Service is good but not good for families. u can easily get car cab from old subzi mandi near HASCOL Petrol pump on road both side u can see there shop branding in karachi.

or u can booked car from khi - quetta - ziarat - khi or You may hire rent a car service from Quetta to reach Ziarat.
