I wanted to share a few of my thoughts here on watches. Of course a collector of watches is called a horologist. I broadly categorize horologists into two categories. One, those who collect very expensive and ultra rare watches that may be auctioned in the range of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not everyone can afford such an expensive hobby which leads us to category two. These horologist collect watches based on some special reason. They may like the look, or some sentimental reason or some other.
I fall into the second category. I am a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for mechanical watches with complications. In the world of mechanical watches there are some classic complications. The article below describes quite a few of them. The one complication that is conspicuously missing is called the Regulator.

To satisfy this need, I bought a Chronoswiss Regulator with a second time zone complication. The watch model is called Tora.
To understand other complications, here is an article that covers quite a few of them:

I have a few watches featuring these complications. In addition to these complications I am also a collector of vintage watches. I still have to find watches with the split seconds chronometer, flyback chronometer and minute repeater. I do have watches featuring some of the other complications.
The one that fulfills the need for an upper end watch is this 18 carat gold day-date with president bracelet. Sadly I do not wear it as our religion looks down at men wearing gold. But on very special occasions it is worn. May Allah forgive me. And my daily Rolex needs are fulfilled by this 1960's Rolex with a engine turned bezel. I bought this with a white dial but wanted a blue one. After a fruitless search I settled for a black dial. All my watch restoration projects are carried out by the most skilled craftsmen outside Pakistan.
As bought with white dial
Same watch with a black dial. Of course the dial is a genuine Rolex item - not a fake. Reason to change dial was that I had too many watches with white dials.
On the wrist. Love this one. Keeps very good time +/- 5 sec per day.
Other watches will be discussed later. This thread is getting too long especially if you have read the two articles I have posted.
