Anyone having room air cooler plz share your experience, are they of any use? what is electricity comsumption? which brand?

I'm pretty sure a split AC is intelligently used, will not be heavy on your pocket.

A room cooler will make you spend later on surgery when you'll be hearing a permanent ''buzz'' in your ears.

If some Karachi member who owns a room cooler can comment it would be quite useful.
I am also thinking to buy a room air cooler but I have my doubts regarding its effectiveness due to humidity in Karachi.

How effective is it in Karachi ?
What is the price and which is the best and reliable brand ?

I saw some online and they were all of 275 watts. (basically consuming electricity equal to 3 fans)

Well cooler is good only when humidity is low ..It will make your life miserable if you use in humidity .....energy consumed is about 250 to 350 watt compared to 1.5 ton a/c which uses 2000watt......

Price of full size cooler is from 5000 to 8000 depanding upon material used...

What is total expense/month if I use 0.75 ton ac for the whole day? minus load shedding hours in Lahore which are 4 to 6 hours in my town.

room coolers are pathetic ...atleast for karachi where weather is already too humid ..u will feel like a gum stick...on the lighter note u can try this ...

not good at all for the weather of karachi .. u will feel dampness and wind and noise .. which is quite irritating sometime

better get a radiator fan on a windw ... will get better wind in ur room ...

dont spend money on it !!

^i agree.....due to high humidity, the water is unable to evaporate and cool itself to cool the air......so it will not work...
if u can dehumidify the entire cooler somehow, it might work.
or u can use petrol instead of water. will be expensive but should work.

I have bought room cooler a month ago from Rawalpindi. Its 32 inch by 32 inch in size. Made up of 24 gauge steel sheet, plus the motors have copper winding and have 5 year warranty. Although it drinks a lot of water like 4 buckets after every 4 hours but it is very effective in Rawalpindi/Islamabad (at least before monsoon). When its working you can touch its base, its just like water from a fridge. The water circulation makes the water and air cool.

I also have an exhaust fan in my room which throws the hot air outside, hence an air passage is formed, cool air is getting in due to air cooler and at the end of the room, hot air is getting out due to exhaust fan.

As far as power consumption is concerned, the shopkeeper told me that it is equal to two ceiling fans as the room cooler has two motors, one for spinning the fan and other for the water pump.

Kamran, i bought a 0.8 ton last year and it is going great, i bought it around 20k, and yes room cooler in karachi is not a good idea, i don't have any experience of it but people who use them are happy, they are better than the fan alone.

I went to buy another 0.8 or 0.75 ton unit to replace one more 1.5 ton, but couldn't find any, what i found was a 0.75 ton window type Samsung without any Warranty, did not buy it because window type 0.75 ton can never replace a 1.5 ton split type, window type are less efficient.
