^i agree.....due to high humidity, the water is unable to evaporate and cool itself to cool the air......so it will not work...
If u can dehumidify the entire cooler somehow, it might work.
Or u can use petrol instead of water. Will be expensive but should work.

wat abt using booze instead of water

Kamran, i bought a 0.8 ton last year and it is going great, i bought it around 20k, and yes room cooler in karachi is not a good idea, i don't have any experience of it but people who use them are happy, they are better than the fan alone.

I went to buy another 0.8 or 0.75 ton unit to replace one more 1.5 ton, but couldn't find any, what i found was a 0.75 ton window type Samsung without any Warranty, did not buy it because window type 0.75 ton can never replace a 1.5 ton split type, window type are less efficient.

lahori cooler is a blessing in punjab region atleast.
works wonders before monsoon.

U guys cool down a room with ac, while the cooler cools down the whole portion of a small house

Lahore Cooler is a good solutions in hot and dry environment, but becomes useless even in Lahore after Mid-July.

Another problem (other than humidity) with these coolers is that they throw in a lot of dust, and all your furnishings and other things become dirty and old too quickly! But they do consume lot less Electricity (around 20% of a 1.5 Tom A/C) and therefore better for the environment!

In lahore and using cooler, the new ones which use some other material in place of what is called khus. Only used AC for just a week, yesterday's wind again changed the weather just a little bit and room temperature is again very pleasant in cooler.
If noise is issue then get the one with blower, it has less noise than the one with fan.

I am planning to get that in mid-july sometime, since my 1.5 ton ac can't cool down my room to lower than 27 C since i have a fridge in here too lol :S.

Only negative thing about a mist fan is, it causes humidity, so if you want to use it inside a room, at least have an exhaust fan to extract the hot air it cost about 9000-9200 depends on the shop owner.
Or sleep on the roof/outside desi style with a mist fan/air cooler with water+ ice :D:D:D:D

Mist fan is not recommended inside the room, can be used in open space. Agreed with roof part.
I am looking for an idea from which i can bring outside cold air in my room with help of some vent or any other things, right now doing it with my GFC fan but its not that effective.

When seeing these Energy labels on electrical appliances, remember this- A is normal consumption of electricity, you want the ones with either A* or A**.
