Ekranoplan, designed by revolutionary Soviet engineer Rostislav Alexeev, was a Ground effect vehicle (GEV) that can fly above any flat surface. It resembles an aircraft but operates solely on the principle of ground effect.

This is a marvel of human engineering undertaken by Russians during cold war days to deploy troops by quickest means. Saw it on a documentary more then a year ago on some channel: Discover, history or NatGeo, don’t remember.
