I have a 2005 70 only 25,000 km driven. I had bought a guard for it because just incase it drops, the genuine tanki won't get damaged. Also, it's quite practicalThe guard accumulated alot of rust on it, and I'm planning to repair it.
The rust is only surface rust.I'm planning to pain it matte black.
Honda doesn't makes guards for bikes. Better sell it in scrap and buy new one. It hardly costs few bucks for best heavy gauge and high quality chrome one.
My house was recently painted, so I have alot of spare paint.
I removed all the rust with 180 grit, and 230 grit sanded it all dry. Than, i brushed enamel on it, so it would fill in any dents and would stop rust once it had completely dried. I didn't have any putty at home.
Sanded it down with 180 grit-230-320 grit and removed most of the emamel, which now fills in dents and rust spots.
Also sanded it with 1000 wet to prepare for painting
It's been quite a time since i haven't posted anything. The paint is going strong and isn't peeling at all. Rust problem is solved and it looks very unique.
I think i forgot to mention that i originally planned on spray priming it first, to promote adhesion, however, spray paint primer isn't available in local market, only primer in liquid can is available.
