Rusty petrol tank?

hey fellas ,
i would like to ask our expert here whats the best cure for rusty petrol tank i had my petrol tank cleaned with pressure water and surf and than left it for 1 day to dry it perfectly but it seems i still have a problem with rust the tank still got rust inside that comes out every now and than in filter so i reckon i need proper cleaning of my petrol tank different people have different opinions , soda with hot water is recommended by few , diesel with nut bolts inside is recommended by few , i would like to know a way that my tank wont leak and rust will cut off as much it could be all suggestions are welcome thanks .

goto a good motorcycle painter, they can paint the insides of a tank with petrol proof primer

thanks xulfiqar for replying u are always a good help but do i have to take my petrol tank to a welder first to cut it out from the middle or a good bike painter can paint it with out cutting the petrol tank or do i have any other good solution to clean the tank that will cut rust considerably like costic soda ?

the bike painters can paint it as is - if its not an overly large tank - or you can also have it hot dip galvanised, the word to remember is HOT dip.

well i also faced the same situation with my cousin suzuki alto today .. he ends up changing the tank with a brand new one .. i guess its under 2k and few days back my friend change the tank of his cultus @ around 2200... so i guess fuel tank are not so expensive specially of suzuki cars
as fuel tanks comes up with a coating which prevent it from rusting inside and mostly it wipes off due to the low grade petrol and cleaning while washing (soda or surf /// as we these days mostly use CNG and use petrol occasinally //

scorpion80 what world u living into man the new cultus tank cost 3800 are u really sure u are telling me the price of new one if yes please confirm me the auto part adress i will go and buy a new one if its 2200 .

i clean mine from surf and pressure water buy after installing the tank i notice that still a lot of rusted junk coming in fuel filter i went back to my mechanic and tell him the whole scenerio he said it happens because tank was rusted cleaning it with surf and pressure water wouldnt cut the rust inside it , now the question is is it normal to have a bit of junk coming in filter or do i really need to worry about it and replace the tank or paint it or what ever suit me best ?

Well, what I did for my Beetle's fuel tank was that I took a bunch of screw's, nut's & bolt's put them inside the tank with about 500ML of Petrol, shaked the fuel tank a couple of time's. Alot of rust in the form of liquid and metal pieces came out. It is pretty helpful and easy to do without having to spend alot of money.

and after that have u noticed the fuel filter murtuza was there still junk coming out from fuel tank or it was perfectly cleaned after that theory ?

yes he bought a brand new as it was packed in box .. may be there are qualities available but no it was not of 3800 i m sure may be +- 200 or 500:P difference ... will try to get u actual price by tomorrow .. !!

The fuel filter's net was clean, but not as clean as it should be.

there are qualities every where i was so confused when i was buying a fuel filter for my cultus every one seems to call his fuel filter genuine and they all are china made is there any specific brand that is recommended for fuel filter ?

go find a place that galvanize whole radio towers, they have huge tanks, and can easily coat a tank inside out - I have done that on a MB tank - they dont cost big money - they COST HUGE MONEY to buy. The shop will charge you a good amount to galvanize but its worth the life long surface treatment you get.

for a suzuki - buy a new one, because hot dipping it would cost you about Rs 3000/- anyway for a smallish tank - I paid Rs 6500/- for the MB one 4 years ago - the guys were in Korangi Industrial area - near brookes chowrangi - you'll have to paint it black again from the outside though

@shqamar .. yar i asked about petrol tank of cultus .. he purchased @ 2600/- right now its available @ 2800/- .. he bought it from a shop @ waterpump so may be its cheaper @ plaza ..

thanks scorpion the rates i was telling u is from quality autos waterpump and they quote 3800 but i guess there are different qualities one well i will take a chance and clean my old one which is fairly new overall just rust is the problem few people told me few tricks so i will implement them and see if that got any better thanks for the info though .
